I highly doubt it.
Tbh, I don't want to see a 13in RMBP.
15in is enough.

Retina on a 13in wouldn't be able to tell the difference between 2012 model.
The screen size is way to small for the resolution.

I think you're assuming the resolution will also be 2880x1800 on the 13".. Which it probably won't be. Apple has always aimed for the same DPI across different sizes, not the same resolutions.

I bet if the 13" comes out it will be 2560x1600. Which will be just as useable as the 15", just on a smaller surface.

The non-retina 13 and 15 have pixel densities of about 113 ppi and 110 ppi, respectively. So, the 13 inch has about 3% higher ppi. The retina 15 inch has about 221 ppi, about 94% higher dpi than the MacBook Pro 13 inch.

Arguably, the improvement in "sharpness" from going from 1280x800 to 2560x1600 on an 13 inch screen should be almost exactly the same as for the 15 inch non-retina vs the retina screen. If you disagree, please describe why.

Obviously, wee need "Retina: explained to the core" thread.

At viewing distance of 22'', MacBook Air (13.3'', 1440x900) has angular resolution of 49 pixels per degree.

Apple defines retina as 60 pixels per degree, average human can perceive up to about 200 pixels per degree (NHK study). However, it's a matter of diminishing returns after ~100 pixels per degree.

MacBook Air 13.3'' with 2880x1800 resolution at 22'' viewing distance would have angular resolution of 99 pixels per degree.

Do you think we will be seeing the 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina this upcoming holiday season for sure?

I say next year - for one, customers who purchased regular 13-inch Pro's will be extremely pissed off as a new one is released a few months later.

If Apple was concerned about pissing customers off then it wouldn't hard sell the iPad for holiday sales when it knows the next version w/ new features is scheduled to be released a few months later.

Apple releases product when it's ready to release product. I give a Retina 13" a 50/50 chance of appearing by this Oct.

Would apple ditch the 1280x800 screen and just use the 1440x900 one in the Air's for the 13" and use a retina one of that or have 3 different retina screens?

Looks like 1680x1050 on a 13" would be very interesting to see.

My guess is that we'd get a 13" RMBP with 2560x1600 display (4x 1280x800).

The Air will probably keep the display it has, maybe going to 1440x900 IPS if they want to make it a bit better. Right now the cost of the display and the required battery size make it a bad fit for the Air. Especially if they want to keep dropping the price.

I just wish they had a Mbp 13 with a usable resolution I don't even care about retina. I will be buying a MBA 13 to get a usable screen.

I guess you are correct (haven't looked up the numbers). What does all this have to do with my response to yusukeaoki?

My message has a lot to do with what you were saying and is a direct answer to yusukeaoki, telling him his assumption is wrong.

Edited to include his quote.

Hmmm.... Apple is not innovative with their laptops? Do you know any other brand that makes any laptop similar to the rMBP?

I think not.

If you read my post properly, you'll see I already mentioned the retina MBP in there. Obviously you're blind, or just can't read properly. :) I assume it's the second, judging from your username.

The retina MBP is the first major overhaul of the MBP in 5 or 6 years. Innovative? Perhaps. I'd argue that it was necessary more than innovative, however.

If I create a product now and don't update it for 23 years and then in its 24th year I do, is that innovative? Or is that me just knowing that after 23 years, things need to, you know, get with the times, and change? Otherwise things become stagnant. Not a word that any business wants to be associated with.

The retina MBP is good, fine, great, whatever, but Apple had to do something this year. I wasn't exactly surprised, amazed, shocked, etc. at them releasing it. I'd have been more shocked if they HADN'T brought it out.

You may want to try harder next time.

I re-read your initial post. I understand your frustration by not having proper resolution 13 Inch laptop made by Apple. However, I think that Apple focused on the making of the Retina MBP, first on the 15 Inch because it's the more mature machine to get this upgrade. Next in-line will be the 13 Inch - so you'll get your revolutionary 13 Inch laptop with proper resolution.

You may argue that they should have bumped up the resolution higher, like the Air, or maybe even higher - and you're right - they should have offered that.

I think that once the 13 Inch rMBP will be released you'll be more than happy - until than I understand your frustration.
