Don't be fooled - in this day and age there's absolutely no reason that Apple can't almost 100% accurately know how many they have on order and how many they can ship. .

No one expected the 5s to sell over 2:1 over the 5c. Apple are some of the best at predicting demand for mature product categories, but anyone thinking that a company will know how many devices to manufacture on day one for an entirely new product category is just talking hot air.

I'm not saying the end users would change the pin. It would be a different SKU - just like the aluminum vs SS watches.

Heh, you think that the shopping experience isn't going to change once Apple has sufficient stock? Ok.

So how is that process any different than what's going on right now? It would be stupid for the watch and band to ship separately, because then depending on supply and demand, a lot of users would end up with a band or a watch but not both on launch day.

And, it'd be SO stressful to have to walk into the Apple store to pick up a substitute band until the one you really want comes in?

Of course, all of this is moot once Apples supply chain fills up. We're talking about how the launch could have been better handled.

I have to specify "space black" rather than just "black" stainless for you to understand?

I don't want to pay $600 for a link bracelet I don't want (which is the only configuration available).

Here is how sport band blk will look likehttps://9to5mac.files.wordpress.com/2015/04/apple-watch-bands-discoloration.jpg
