I woke up super early to buy it, but that's because I'm an :apple: fan. When my friends asked me "so what does it do, and why do I need it?" I had a hard time answering.

um...you don't look at your phone as much...um....

how would you answer?

I just say I'm an Apple fanboi and have to have every Apple toi.

You know how there are RAMMSTEIN or Madonna fans, and they buy every one of their albums (good or bad). Same with Apple. There's nothing wrong with wanting to own every Apple product.

Friends ask me that for every new Apple thing. I used to enthusiastically explain every feature but since normal people don't share our excitement my demonstrations always fall flat.

I now say 'watch the keynote and look at the website'. Hahaha!

I say I want it for notifications and fitness tracking, but people at work still look at me like I just lit the money on fire.

Because I want to.

I have no need to justify my purchases to anyone. My friends are not judgemental or shallow enough to ask me that. I don't try and convince my friends they need something, they're capable enough to do their own research.

They might ask to see what it can do tho, which is easy enough to answer.

"I don't need to explain to you why I purchased a device with my hard-earned money. Why do you buy so much alcohol? We're all really worried about you, Bob."

I was talking to another technophile, and something he said jumped out at me:

"I wouldn't date a girl wearing an Apple Watch. I'd know she's too materialistic and bad at money."

Since I was just talking about getting the Watch, I naturally got defensive. I can wear a Fitbit and a Pebble without judgement, but something that combines the functionality of both is somehow egregious?

Forget that guy. "Because I wanted it" is my reason going forward.

my friends and family understand my fitness level so they don't really have to ask me this..
hopefully it works out for me in what i do.

The only reason for me was to use it while playing golf. The ability to look down and quickly see the distance to the green is great, yet pulling out the phone, unlocking the phone and starting the app for every shot is too cumbersome. I'd like to wear it in the pool to get messages, but that won't happen with this one.

My family and friends know I am an Apple enthusiast, so they ask don't ask "Why?" Instead they ask, "Are you getting one?"
