I think I'll go with "why did your MOM buy the apple watch" :p

But seriously I do what I want. If I didn't have the money or didn't see the desire I wouldn't have ordered one.

I was talking to another technophile, and something he said jumped out at me:

"I wouldn't date a girl wearing an Apple Watch. I'd know she's too materialistic and bad at money."

Since I was just talking about getting the Watch, I naturally got defensive. I can wear a Fitbit and a Pebble without judgement, but something that combines the functionality of both is somehow egregious?

Forget that guy. "Because I wanted it" is my reason going forward.

Oh look, a judgmental douchebag!

That's the kind of man all women are looking for.

That's his issue, not yours or any woman wearing an Apple Watch. Perhaps she actually has a good / great job and can buy an Apple Watch like he buys a hot dog (i.e. without much thought).

My answer is because I wanted it. Even if I simply use it as a watch, I've been looking for an upgrade to the various digital watches I've used over the years... here it is.

Whilst I might get this question with the undertone "Why did you waste your money on that": I think I am more lightly to get this question out of genuine curiosity ie "I only vaguely know what this thing does but I am curious to know what it is you like about what it does".

So if asked this question I will not get aggressive and point out I can spend my money how I will like: I will give one of two answers I think depending on the context of the question:

"I miss too many texts from my girlfriend because phone is in back pocket or I am too distracted at work. I want haptic engine to tell me when she has texted me"

OR

"I am like Tim Cook: I have wanted a watch I could make calls on since I was 9 years old. If the 9 year old me knew that the 48 year old me could afford to buy a watch that made calls and then did not do so, the nine year old me would be very upset."

I wore a watch since I was 12. When my last mechanical watch died, I decided to try the Apple Watch It cost as much as the mechanical watches I was considering but, with all the extra functions. I got an SS S0 at launch and enjoyed it so much I just upgraded to SS S3. The thing I like most is interacting with the Apple Watch as opposed to just seeing the time on a mechanical watch. I like not having to pull my phone out to respond to notifications. The LTE is sweet.

When AW first came out, I thought it was crazy because the most I've ever spent on a mechanical watch was $160. And a bit of backstory - my wife and I have spent the last 3 years paying $80/mo for a local gym for both of us -- of which we went to maybe 3 times in the year.

Instead of paying that, we quit that, put the $ towards two Apple Watches. Since the 3 weeks of owning Apple Watches, we've exercised more than we have in the last 5 years combined.

Like others mentioned, I always leave my phone on mute. Now when my wife calls I can answer via my watch when my phone is in another room on mute. The health aspects - sleep information, heart rate information, the ability to participate in the heart study, and my wife and I sharing activity stats is just amazing. $350 was a little steep but... we're actually saving $ and ACTUALLY exercising vs $80/mo for our local gym.

That said, I don't need to justify **** to anyone. So my response is based on how their attitude is. Some people are anti-apple because whatever reason. However, I've found overwhelming positive reactions to my apple watch from even the most avid android coworkers. Meeting other AW owners in the real world is always a pleasant experience - everyone I've met so far loves their AW --- and my wife and I do as well!

To push myself to goto gym or do some kind of workouts everyday.

So far so good and lost few pounds too ;)

I woke up super early to buy it, but that's because I'm an :apple: fan. When my friends asked me "so what does it do, and why do I need it?" I had a hard time answering.

um...you don't look at your phone as much...um....

how would you answer?

Easy: I walked into an Apple Store. I wanted one. I bought it. Between the watch and my iPad, they make my phone’s battery life last 2-3 additional hours. Worth it? I don’t know. But I love it, I don’t regret it at all, and I would rebuy it every time.
