I wasn't vague to be secretive, I was vague because I only had an inkling at what was wrong and did not know how to fix it. The only thing I use Automator for is this process.

Fair enough. I wasnt worried either way.

Need a Few Testers for Lion Fixes - v1.0.8

I could use some help testing the v1.0.8. This release will fix compatibility issues with Mac OS X Lion's service workflows not locating the actions. The actions will now be installed in /Library/Automator; instead of the User's Library which should resolve any issues in the future.

PM me if you wanna link to the new installer.

Thanks!

Great work

Firstly, i just wanted to say a massive thank you! This tutorial and the accompanying hard work has been amazing and is hugely appreciated!

I think I have everything working fine, my only problem, and i think its an expected action, is that after i have ripped, encoded and tagged TV items using the services, i import them into iTunes and the filenames get renamed from "Series - S00E00" to the episode name. I'm guessing this is because the tags have been embedded into the meta data and once iTunes reads it, it changes the name of the file accordingly.

Ordinarily this would be fine, but i'm using Plex and in order for the files to be recognised, the filenames need to be "Series - S00E00" (or "Series - S00E00" - EpisodeName). Is there anyway to amend the the Add TV Tags action to not pull in the episode name?

Batch Rip Despatcher does not work for me

Thanks a lot for the scripts. I have read you tutorial and it does seem to be a very useful script. I would love to test it but after installing 1.0.7 I do not seem to get it working!

Now, I am new to automator, but I have followed your tutorial installed everything, then I went to the Application menu services clicked on the dispatcher but no dialog happened to enable the service. When I insert a DVD nothing happens...

How can I troubleshoot what I am doing wrong?

I am running Lion, and kind of helpless...

Thanks in advance: lakicsv

Did you configure the batch rip to run on DVD and Blue-Ray? that is what kicks off the dispatcher..

Hi Gunthermic,

Thanks for your comment. What do you mean? Do I need to go to Mac Settings CD/DVD and assign a script to this when a "video dvd" is inserted? I tried that, I cannot navigate there to an automator workflow or service...

Or you mean configuring the workflow itself ? how can i get to it under Lion? And judgeing from the tutorial screenshot that is already configured and there is not much for me to set... (I could change it to run automatically but that only chages the prompts).

But How can I even get to the workflow to edit it?

Even when I open Automator, it ask me to create a new workflow / service or whatever. I can try opening an existing document at this point in ~/Library/Automator? But under Lion in the finder window this is hidden... How on earth I can get to it?

OK I went to it from Finder with the Go to folder trick. There are no workflow flies there are only "action" files there... does this mean that my installation is botched?

But when I try creating a new workflow in Automator, rather than open an existing document then I can find it on the left hand side among the workflows to be added to the new workflow. Batch rip is there, and a double click opens it up for editing the conf, with the options familiar from the tutorial screenshot. But then I need to save it somewhere after i made changes (supposedly over the existing BAtch rip workflow, but where is it?!

I am utterly confused by now...

Does anyone have Lion specific instructions how to make the batch rip work?

-V.

You don't have to have Automator open to enable the dispatcher. Perhaps try to enable it from another app? For example, I'm using Google Chrome to view this page. From the browser I can click on "Chrome" from the menu bar, and choose Services >> Batch Rip Dispatcher.

There are some known issues on Lion though & although Mac.Jedi has ironed some out, there could be a couple he is unaware of. Perhaps the next version will help when mac.jedi releases it.

His is correct, you must enable the Dispatcher.

But he is correct until may releases new version you won't be able to do certain thing. I can tell you that part is fixed. We tested it all weekend..

Hi mac.jedi,

Appreciate your update! I had 1.0.7 before and I was not able to get it working. When I tried to enable the dispatcher from services menu nothing happened. I dowloaded 1.0.8 unistalled 1.0.7 and installed 1.0.8. Now when I try to enable dispatcher from services it works, but it gives me an error message (at least this time something happens).

"The action batch rip Dispatcher encountered an error"

I have attached the screenshot. What now? How can I troubleshoot?

I am running Lion on a macbook pro.

Unfortunately, I get the following error when trying to use the Batch Encode (Finder) script:

Code:
ERROR: mp4tags command tool is not setup to execute
ERROR: attempting to use tool at /usr/local/bin/mp4tags

ERROR: mp4tags command tool could not be found
    ERROR: mp4tags can be installed in ./ /usr/local/bin/ /usr/bin/ ~/ or /Applications/

Anyone any idea what went wrong?

I had the same problem but seemed to fix it by uninstalling the Batch Rip Actions and then manually searching for any files with "batch" in them and removing them as well. Also, I removed everything from the /Library/Automator directory since they were all related to Batch Rip Actions.

Hope that helps.

Thank you mac.jedi!

I unfortunately encounter 'error 1000' when running Batch Rip :( And Dispatcher doesn't open

With the changes to Lion, I sugges to uninstall 1.07, and then reinstall 1.08. and reconfigure your workflows once again.

Look to the bottom of mac.jedi release notes how to get to the workflow properly.

Dispatcher. Sometimes it can hang or not start.

Click Apple, Services and run Dispatcher. There are three options. Enable, Disable, and Restart. Choose restart, and then enable. to kick it back into gear.

I am recallng the three options from memory. Hopefully i named them right. But sometimes it gets stuck in disabled mode.

First, THANK YOU for this amazing script!!!

I know we are all testing version 8, but I was just wondering.

Is it possible to be able to use the script to convert DVD-ISO images to MKV making an EXACT copy (lossless)?

I have about about 800 files in ISO format I would like to convert to MKV keeping all the goodies.

Thanks so much for your prompt response.

Hi, I got a question regarding the Batch Rip Dispatcher. I can't seem to get it to enable. When I select it from the services it starts and gives me 3 options and then I select Enable. I stick in a disk and nothing happens. When I click the service again I see that it is disabled.

If the disk is already in there and I click it then the terminal pops up and rips the disc perfectly. I have tried reset as well.

I am running your 1.0.8, on 10.6.8 osx, everything is up to date. The latest suggested apps are installed and working correctly

Run Automatically When = 0
BD-Rom = 0
DVD-Rom = 1

I have tried the following,
1. Different versions of your script
2. uninstalling and reinstalling, deleting all batch files in the service directory

I have searched for this problem on the form and I couldn't find a solution, unless I am missing something very obvious. I would appreciate any help please!

Also THANK YOU, this workflow/scripts are just amazing job! I saw your thread over a year ago and I was searching for something like this for windows. Honestly this the best thing I have ever seen, and I couldn't find anything that comes close to this on windows. It's because of these scripts that I am into macs now thanks.

Is it possible to be able to use the script to convert DVD-ISO images to MKV making an EXACT copy (lossless)?

Well MKV is really just a container, so in theory you could drop an MPEG2 in there, having extracted/re-assembled the video from the DVD structure (all the VOBs). With the right filename you could still use mac.jedi's tagging/chaptering scripts and that could do the job.

Or do you mean an encoded copy of the video in the MKV?

save location not saved

due to a lack of hard drive space on my internal drive, I created the following directories on an external hard drive
External HD/Movies/Batch Rip Movies
External HD/Movies/Batch Rip TV
External HD/Movies/Batch Encode

unfortunately, after changing the settings to recognize this location, and ripping a single dvd, the settings revert to looking for the directories on my internal hard drive. How do I make the scripts always rip to the external hard drive? Running Mac OS X 10.6.8

Same problem here, but I'm on Lion. Yet to find the time to troubleshoot this completely but I'll post when I do.

Here's a few tips to help you along:

1. Eject all discs.
2. Reset dispatcher.
3. Enable dispatcher.
4. Reboot computer.
5. Make sure DVD and/or BD is checked in the Batch Rip (Finder) workflow.
6. Check Dispatcher to make sure it's enabled.
7. Try inserting a disc and see if it runs.

Hope this helps!

Thanks!

Just to let everyone know, there's an uninstaller in the Docs folder of the installer dmg.

Any options you change should be saved along with the workflow. I've noticed that sometimes Automator doesn't register the change. Two suggestions: toggle a checkbox before you save. Re-open the workflow and see if it saved your options. If not, try a Save As.
