VLC media player. It will even read Video TS folders should you choose to just rip the whole disc. If VLC can play it, Handbrake can convert it...

Edit: Then again, if space is of no consideration you could just leave all your rips as-is and play all your content in VLC - to each his own I guess...

How do you do that?
Use the Apple DVD Player.

- Launch it

- Under the FILE menu select OPEN DVD MEDIA...

- Browse to the Video-TS file on your HD created by MTR.

- Play the movie. I usually play a couple of minutes at the beginning, then skip a few chapters, play a few movies, then go to the end and see that it ends okay. Just a quick check out to see all came through okay as MTR sometimes reports all is good and it isn't.

Note, when burning to a DVD, I used DVD2OneX and many times it will fix MTR errors.

Hey Sushi, I use Video Converter to convert my .avi or whatever files to .mp4, but it takes forever. Like, around 2 hours to convert, is handbrake quicker?

Thanks

Try using Visual Hub it is well worth the money!

So what I am doing, is taking DVDs and ripping them to the HD using MacTheRipper (MTR). MTR gives you the choice of ripping the whole DVD or just the main feature.

Once I've done this, then I use Handbrake to convert the movie to what will work on the iPod, but also show good on a regular TV or computer screen. A regular movie will be about 1.2GB.

The problem I see is that with MTR, when you rip the DVD it rips to multiple VOB's. With Handbrake you have the choice to rip to a single file. When I rip a movie it always seems to be in the 4GB range. How can I shrink the main feature to 700mb-1.5gb? It just doesn't make sense to backup my movies to a harddrive and have it taking 4GB of space per movie, nor to have it in VOB's.

mtr removes copyright protections and is meant to enable creating a burnable iso image to burn to blank media.. its output can be used in conjunction with handbrake to create your desired filesize... sometimes it is necessary to run through mtr first as handbrake will fail to get past copyright schemes

handbrake will allow you to set a target size-so if space is an issue i would simply rip your movies using HB and set whatever size you wish
