Like most Apple products, AirTags are able to be updated with new software over the air, with Apple able to push new firmware when required.

Apple in June 2021 released the first AirTags firmware update with anti-stalking security enhancements that decreased the intervals in which an AirTag separated from its owner will play a sound. Additional firmware updates have been released since that time.

Here's how to check your firmware version:
  1. Open up the Find My App.
  2. Tap on the "Items" tab.

  3. Tap on the AirTag that you want to check in the list.
  4. In this view, tap on the name of the AirTag to see the current firmware version.

The AirTags launched with firmware version 1.0.225, and Apple has rolled out updated firmware versions every few months since, usually on a staggered basis.

There is no way to force an AirTag update, as it's something that's done over the air through your iPhone. To ensure the update happens, you can make sure that the AirTag is in range of your iPhone, but you have to wait for the firmware to roll out to your device.

So they'll go off on their own, audibly, more readily? Not something I really want as, I was thinking the 3 days of slack were going to cause enough coincidental headaches as is.

I wonder if only my phone will update them? Or since they “connect” to any iPhone (and other Apple devices nearby), can they get updated through those devices?

I am still on 1.0.225, and I have had my AirTag next to my iPhone all day.

Oh well, at some point it will update. Though as others have said, I wish there was a way to force update!

Maybe in the future?

Apple needs to invent golf balls with a Find My U1 chip in it, 😉 Would definitely speed up play if all golfers could easily find their errant shots. Who's with me on this? 😂

I am 100% with you on this, haha!

They would have to figure out how to make the golf ball regulation weight, and obviously it would not be allowed in tournament play.

"We would like to offer you a brand new product, and we think you are going to love it! The Apple Golfball with the U1 chip, or Apple Golfball-U1, Starting at three Apple Golfball-U1's for $30.00, or a dozen Apple Golfball-U1's for just $90.00. That is just $7.50 a ball when bought by the dozen!"

Obviously some sarcasm there, but I would buy a few (if they are offered them, which will most likely never happen) if they were reasonably priced as you figure you would probably save quite a bit of money if you cut back significantly on losing golf balls.

Just curious, what type of golf ball are you using now?

If nothing else, just to watch people try to 'kill it' by hitting it hard. The aches and pains that would cause...

Last time I golfed, it was a scramble, and one in my foursome kept trying to 'Happy Gilmore(?)' shot after shot. He really sucked at it. We never played any of their shots, obviously, and he never got the clue we weren't impressed. We could have used a few 'better' shots too. I kept finding expensive Callaway balls too, which is why I played x-outs. *shrug* I play bad golf well...
