The only advantage of the German government being so slowing is that I will probably be either 10 years older or dead by the time the app gets released here. Just read that they apparently haven’t even had any talks, no budget, not talked to either google or Apple let alone commissioned anyone to actually build it

Amazing that people freak out over a technology that doesn't use location data and is designed to maintain privacy, while simultaneously using carriers that have been literally selling their location data to advertising companies and who knows who else for all these years...

Also I just discovered you can block people on this forum, which is very convenient!

You can advocate against both you know.

They don‘t have to talk to Apple or Google since this is a public API. Also Deutsche Telekom and SAP have already been announced as the contractors in Germany. So I don’t know what you are talking about.

And LOL at Telekom. We have a corporation with them and the [another / different area] app still hasn’t launched since the press release last October. It’s a mess, starting with agreeing on a button color after XY meetings

So whats to stop someone from putting down they are positive and going to sporting or other large traffic events this fall and causing more panic? Even better show up to work and force everyone to go remote again when everyone sees they are exposed.
The apps. They could e.g. be designed such that the user can upload their random IDs, but they would not be added to the list of "diagnosed" IDs (that other phones can then download to detect exposures) without authorization by a medical professional.

And people will do this. 100%

My question is, how does your phone know you have been infected in the first place? Is it up to the individual user to enable something on the phone?

Let's hope this works. Contact tracing is a key element to fighting this virus!
No, herd immunity is the key. As it's been stated before by medical professionals, now that more tests are being done it is being discovered that while this virus is super contagious, it's not as deadly as originally believed and might be less deadly than the flu.

Since people are going to jump without reading, note that I said not as deadly, I did not say that this virus is not deadly. It is less deadly than the flu when using current numbers.

They explained it in this post:
When positively diagnosed for COVID-19, the test result is entered in the app from a public health authority.

I suspect they'll have a wizard like when you choose to send them analytics or not. Regardless, I can seen this causing a lot of panic when everyones phone goes off telling them they have been near someone infected. Or worse, a false sense of security when they have been near dozens of people with a old smartphone, feature phone, or no phone at all.

No. Those clever enough to think this saves them from the virus have probably overdosed on bleach already.

It does not. It only records the random IDs of other phones that you have been in close contact with over the last 14 days. Only when you have been diagnosed your own IDs will be uploaded by the contact tracing apps so other phones can see them.

Why a front page post on how to disable this?
Because [in America at least] we have a right to privacy.

Never trust "anonymous" data, it can nearly always be de-anonymized as is likely going to be abused by government for "the better of all".

Since I'm sure a biased mod will remove this post, I AM NOT being political when I say the US government does not deserve our trust with the crap they've done in the past and currently do in regards to "privacy" and illegal activity.

Now that I am looking at the picture, how the hell are the anonymous beacons "anonymous" if they change frequently? There has to be some reference record to notify the appropriate people and pair contact data.

My only qualm with this is I don’t see contact tracing ever going away. They say it’s for COVID-19, then they’ll tell us it’s to assist with the next inevitable pandemic, but it will mostly be a way for big tech/governments to justify monitoring the movement of all of their citizens and inevitably abuse that privilege in nefarious ways, a la China‘s CCP.

Ah, just like what the phone carriers worldwide are doing for the last two decades? Got ya.

There are estimates that the number of people infected with the CoV who are asymptomatic but still capable of spreading the virus (to someone else who might die from it) is anywhere from 50X to 80X the number of tested and confirmed cases.
If so.... contact tracing is virtually worthless to the end user

I can't wait till headlines of this being offered by apple and google in conjunction with world governments goes mainstream on newsfeeds.

current conspiracies:

-5G
-Bill Gates
-Illuminati
-Vaccines
-Depopulation

and now
-Apple
-Google
-Big Brother
I have seen it on mainstream media. I believe some countries are opting out because they want more information that this provides.

Wow some of you get really barred up...

Your health is important. It’s far more important than what anyone/company can get from having this button switched on.

Agreed. The ‘button’ is merely a reminder. Outside of notifications, it’s about practicing A.)social distancing, B.) basic hygiene and C.) overall set the example for others what we need to do to collectively make the change with through everybody’s effort.

I can't stress hand washing enough... we're seeing that up to 80% of the cases were from poor hand hygiene. i.e., touching a contaminated surface, and then touching your face.
