For me this is btw the very last time buying a locked iPhone!!

Did you ever get it unlocked? How old is the phone? You should contact the carrier that it's locked with and see if they'll unlock it.

The reason for buying it locked and used was the good prize, but the guy who sold it never did a jailbreak before and upgraded it to iOS 6. So stupid from me not checking if iOS 6 is unlockable/jailbreakable before buying it. It is locked until Jan. 2013.

Some time ago I thought about switching to the carrier my current iPhone is locked with. Soon or later I would stitch to them. So I ended up buying a sim-card from that career today and I'm using it now as my primary mobile number... inside my 'new' iPhone 4 with iOS 6.

BTW: iOS 6 is really great imo!

Awesome! You'll love it even more if/when an untethered jailbreak comes out for iOS6!

Ok here is the simplest way to do it (after hours of trying):

1. Download the latest version of snowbreeze:

sn0wbreeze-v2.9.6

2. Download your 5.1.1 IPSW

3. Use Tiny Umbrella to back up all your device blobs.

4. Use Snowbreeze to create a "Custom IPSW" with your blobs.

5. USe Snowbreeze to DFU mode into your phone. Then go to itunes hit shift than left click restore. Pick your custom made IPSW from snowbreeze.

6. Done

Thanks for this great post. I just followed it and got my iPhone 4 back to 5.11 without any error. I tied resn0w 2 times with no luck.

As mentioned before, use the tethered Jailbreak to 'Hacktivate' the phone. This will atleast allow you go into the phone and use as a glorified iPod until you get a active SIM.
