How to Download the Fitness+ App on iPad

I'm in the UK and have a first gen iPad Air 2 and its definitely in my App Store. If you search for Fitness+, it shows up - its working fine on my iPad.

I can choose the session on the iPad and then the same session shows on the screen of my S4 Apple Watch - I then tap the start button on the screen of the watch and the session then begins on the iPad (I didn't have to specifically pair my watch to the iPad - it just works).

All the data from the session then shows on both my iPad and on my iPhone in the Fitness App.

I get the green button if I use my iphone but not with the iPad (also in the UK)

I can't download the app from the App Store. It isn't there. Instead, go to an Apple web page for the Fitness+ and click on the link to download it.

Here's how I got it. My wife is signed into the iPad with her Apple ID--she doesn't have an Apple Watch. I tried searching, and Fitness didn't even show up. I tried the links from the article and got the error about device not being capable. I tried force closing everything--still nothing. Finally, I signed her out of iCloud and signed in with my user ID and suddenly Fitness was right there in the App store. Installed with no issues and works fine. So it seems through my trial and error that you can't download Fitness to the iPad unless you already have an Apple Watch linked to your Apple ID.

Has anyone downloaded the app from iPad that doesn't own an Apple watch?

I've tried everything but it doesn't work, so I'm assuming you need an Apple watch linked to your account?

Interesting that there is no way to rate the app on the store... It would be decent in the coming days if there were comparisons between this, and say, the Peloton app for general workout videos, and integration in to other watches on the market.

Seems Fitness+ has a fair number of gaps right now. Starting exercises from the iPad, half of my workouts won't show any Heart Rate chart, instead reading chart unavailable, and though post run, may show something like a average heart rate of 129, the on screen heart rate shows a constant 91bpm.... maybe that's because I'm using a three year old S3 watch, but something is amiss.

That's weird that you are having those issues - on my devices (first gen iPad Air 2 and S4 Apple Watch), everything just works seamlessly.

I choose the workout on my iPad and then press the green 'Lets Go' button on the iPad screen and then the same workout opens automatically on the screen of my watch and I just press the play symbol on my watch screen and the workout begins on the iPad.

During the workout, I can see all the metrics on my watch and also on my iPad and at the end, they are both displayed on the iPad and on my watch screen.

The data is then synced to the Fitness app on my iPhone 12 even though the actual workout took place on my iPad and watch.

It all just works together seamlessly for me.

👍🏼

Yeah, there's something slightly amiss. That's how I've started it on my first gen iPad Air 2. Other floor mat exercises seem to be alright, but watch data vs on screen realtime for treadmill has a real issue with showing heart rate differently on the two devices. Ultimately not a big concern. Surely a future update will get a bit tighter control.

This is so strange. I still can’t find the app when searching in the App Store. I can only when following the link in this article.
There’s this thing going in the EU where Apple can’t put itself forward in query searches. If this is somehow related to that, the damn it, the detriment has begun.

And THIS is why I like Apple products so much.

No luck on my 12.9 2nd Gen. iPad Pro. App store will not give me the download link even after trying the fixes mentioned above

Despite having the same name as the iPhone app, it doesn’t track any of your activity from your watch or phone. In other words, if you aren’t subscribed to Fitness+ it’s useless.
