People in Hong Kong and Taiwan are tricking FaceID (by revealing the nose only) and using Voice Control to unlock the iPhone. The latter method is nice but very power consuming I suppose coz the microphone is on all the time.

FaceID with nose but not mouth -
Voice Control -

I work in surgery

I learned that you only need the tip of your nose exposed for Face ID to work. You can keep your mouth covered..

So as soon as I look at my phone, I open my mouth wide and the mask goes down below the tip of my nose for a sec, it unlocks then I close my mouth it goes back over my nose.

iOS 13.5beta cannot be considered to be a fix (tried it)! It is just awful esp. when you're using ApplePay.
- Removing/touching your mask constantly / not a good idea
- Trying to enter my 12digit alphanumeric pin while holding my phone close to the point of sale terminal / forget about it
- Going back to a 4 digit PIN while everyone can watch me while I pay with my phone / stupid

I hope Apple has the balls to take an off the shelf ultrasonic fingerprint sensor and integrates it into the ip12. As long as Apple doesn't I'm back on my ip7 - this thing so lightweight and TouchID works flawless with ApplePay, no matter if I wear a mask or not.

How is it when you’re wearing gloves? Don’t leave us hanging not knowing every inane aspect from your life.
Wow, we have a customer here, welcome sir, please come closer cause i have to whisper this ultra top secret thing ...now lets get started...it actually works with the gloves on...imagine that...next one please

I was in Japan back in mid February, and wore a mask every day for 10 days as I was walking around.

My experience was that the phone learnt my new look after three days. Not quite as reliable - but still unlocking around 70 to 80% of the time.

Wore a 3M FFP3 mask, with glasses and it was OK. With a cap on as well, I couldn't get it to work.

I didn’t have these issues when I used Apple Pay about an hour ago. I have an 11 digit passcode that I entered with nitrile gloves. Sure it took a few seconds but worked .

Just noticed today that Siri can and will unlock my phone despite me wearing a cloth facemask. I have NOT setup an alternate appearance. Just how concerned (or paranoid if you prefer) should I be?

Nevermind... Apparently it's an updated FaceID "feature".
