hey, with BetterTouchTool you can set custom gestures for those swipes!

If you want to set a shortcut for 3 finger swipe an expose you have to deactivate expose while entering the shortcut in BTT. (Go to system preferences => keyboard => expose. There set a custom shortcut but do not activate it yet. Then set the shortcut in BTT and activate it in the system preferences)

Oh yeah, I have that down and it works beautifully. However, notice that an opposite swipe on the trackpad will "close" expose if it is still open. For some reason it is very natural to swipe down to open expose, and back up to close it.

It works for me but it's not a 'click'.

Basically put your three fingers on the magic mouse and it sets it off. Oh and it was listed as mouse button 3 in my system preferences.

This is really awesome - thank you so much.

I really wish Macrumors allowed repping - you would have my vote! :D

middle click on Magic mouse in Snow Leopard

In order to get middleclick app to work with the magic mouse, I had to plug in an additional USB mouse to get that middle button option under the system preferences for expose. Then once you get out of system preferences you can unplug the USB mouse and middle click then works perfect on the magic mouse even on a fresh restart. hope that helps everyone! (this process worked both on a new imac and a unibody MBP)

The newer versions, while bringing awesome potential, are REALLY buggy. It'd randomly quit working, some actions just don't work at all, and three-finger swipes aren't really swipes - they're basically two taps towards that direction (three finger swipe up is actually two three finger taps, first lower, then upper, you get the idea).

But bravo on Fuzz for working on it - the app, with work, will become an indispensable app!

For everyone else, LISTEN to Fuzz - stick with 0.291 if you want it to just work. But if you want to play around with new features, with the knowledge that things will probably not work as intended, then by all means.

I wonder if anybody could help me.

I have been using a Magic Mouse for few days. Without BTT I used to scroll with my pointer finger and my middle finger just rests on the mouse's right side. It had worked fine until I installed BTT. I defined some gestures and I love BTT. Unfortunately I can't scroll in the way I used to. Scrolling only works when only one finger is on the mouse.

I wonder if it is normal or I made something wrong?

Yep, that's normal, for now. However, intermittently I have gotten that two finger scrolling method to work with BTT. But it seems to come and go and I can't replicate it.

Fuzzi I finally got around to downloading Better Touch Tool and it is fantastic! So easy to use and three finger swipe down has expose!

Can we donate to you?

In 0.317, Fuzzi fixed three-finger swipes. It now actually works (not the weird tap-tap trick I mentioned above). And 0.317 is much more stable than all the versions since 0.291.

A-m-a-z-i-n-g work here, man. If you ever got this app polished and stable, you really should get a site for it to get more exposure (instead of your blog).

This is truly a fantastic program, and you deserve donations for it.

Note that if you did some configuring, and some functions suddenly don't work, simply restart BTT. They should all work then. If it still suddenly stops working, check the "risky" box. That should fix the issue.

I've not ran into the crash the "risky" checkbox alludes to yet, but just keep that in mind if you're working on critical tasks :)

The mouse probably recognizes it as two fingers moving in one direction so it would activate whatever shortcut you have set for two finger swipe (up and down). I noticed this too and I couldn't get used to the one finger scrolling. It did feel nice though to be able to show the desktop with a two finger swipe up and bring up dashboard with a swipe down.

Yes that's normal. If you want to keep doing what you have been doing, you can just not assign anything to two-finger swipe up/down, and assign stuff to three-finger swipe up/down instead. Just an idea. :)

just install BetterTouchTool (http://blog.boastr.net ) it doesn't need such a fiddling.

It supports CMD + Click, Middle Click, and every shortcut you can imagine. Take a look ;-)

What is the command for middle click? I want to use the 3 finger click as middle click but I don't know the "key command"

Install the latest version of BetterTouchTool (0.317) and all will become apparent.

Thanks. I re-read the blog and it was blindingly obvious.

The only problem I'm having now is getting VMware Fusion to recognize the third mouse button properly. I have it set up in the preferences but I it won't recognize a dragged middle mouse button. I use it for CAD (CoCreate Personal Edition) and the new VMWare is good enough to run it, but I just can't get the middle mouse button to work with any mouse.

you may try the current alpha 0.324, middle click has been reworked for cad, but i couldn't test it yet

With the new version, three-finger tap and three-finger click now work properly together.

Hey, I'm running out of ideas of what to assign to all those gestures! What do you assign to yours? Mine is:

two-finger left/right: default
three-finger left/right: right/left in spaces
three-finger click: dashboard
three-finger down: expose (all windows)
three-finger up: expose (reveal desktop)

Is it me or are there two different applications being discussed here? BetterTouchTool (which is hugely awesome) and MiddleClick or whatever it's called?

Yeah but does it flick away ALL windows at once?

Just the one that is active. That's all I want it to do. That's how I easily close single windows or tabs. I don't like having to press cmd w every time or clicking the "x". I just "flick" the current window away *poof goes the tab*. I missed this ever since SL and I didn't want to run my Safari in 32-bit.
