It is actually for the iPhone, it has a headphone jack at the end along with a clip, button, and (of course) the mic. It is for you to be able to use any headphones as a headset and have controls for your music and a microphone for calls still.

This is very similar.

Does the sound play-through? Meaning can you monitor the sound through the earbuds as the mic picks up.

seems like a leap, but we'll see....

just because some thing will accept an audio signal don't mean you can use it in conjunction with wifi allowing voip. Its one thing to record something, its another to have a two way conversation...

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/525.18.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.1.1 Mobile/5F136 Safari/525.20)

Truphone will do it since they already have one for the iPhone.

Yeah !!! One more reason to not buy an iphone. Buy a touch. One time purchasing fee, slimmer, more storage and woo hoo VOIP (or at least soon to utilize VOIP apps). Thanks for sticking it to us apple

Imagine lots of people over time owning these devices.

People could surreptitiously make digital recordings of conversations - any conversation, anywhere, and no one would need be aware that they were being recorded.

Previously you needed to go to a spy shop to obtain such a device. Now all you need is an iPhone or iPod Touch. This coupled with a digital camera and your words can literally come back to haunt you.

Corrected.

;)

Great news Pismo.

Looking forward to some good Podcasting applications for the Touch. I do lots of recording in cars (hey I do an automotive Podccast), so having pocketable recorder that has some Apple hardware is a nice Touch (no pun intended).

Cheers

I apologize.. I have grotesquely large fingers that hit multiple keys at one time. your right.. every update will only cost you $20. after two years, you will have paid $1000+ dollars for the ipod Touch : )

I never said it was expensive. It is, however, a bit of a stretch to say the iPod touch has a "one-time purchasing fee." Apple may not be pushing the updates on you, but they include features that many touch users (like myself) wouldn't want to miss out on.

I know... I was just joking and what I meant about the one time purchasing fee was that you wouldnt have to make monthly service payments like with the iphone. I totally forgot about the occasional cost to update for new features. my bad.

At first I thought ... Hmm .. this is a useless thread and those videos are useless ... BUT ... then I noticed the pretty paper towels you are using. They look nice ... what kind are they?? ;)

Good to see you aren't letting the topic at hand distract you and you are keeping focused on the important things in life :)

To answer someone's question- yes, you can listen to and input audio at the same time. VoIP is definitely happening.

This is pretty sweet. I know the touchmods guy made an ipod Touch mic that plugged in the dock connector and required a jailbroken iPod, but this appears to work natively through the headphone port and without jailbreaking!
