Strange, did you update your carrier file or are you using the standard O2 one?

are you reffering to me ?

how do you update you carrier file ?
Yes I was. From your response I guess that means you haven't. It's likely you need to update your carrier file to enable Tethering in order to use it. I think I only have the option because I have updated my carrier file.

how can i update my carrier file to get the tethering option back?

It's in my Settings>General>Network "Set Up Internet Tethering".

When I press the button its says:

Set Up Internet Tethering
To enable tethering on this account, visit http://www.o2.co.uk/iphonehelp/modem

I have not updated my carrier file, it's coming up as Version O2 4.0

Ah ok, yeah I have O2 5.0 which is a different carrier file - I can't remember where I got it from now, but tethering works on it :)

Could people on o2 simplicity, please confirm your settings for network and also the steps you have taken to get the phone to work correctly :)

I am on Simplicity. I texted MMS to 1010 and waited, nothing happened. I then discovered (after trying and failing to get online via 3G) that my APN settings were not working. I had to alter my Cellular Data APN to mobile.o2.co.uk with vertigo/password and MMS to wap.o2.co.uk with username/password. Later that evening I got a message to say that MMS couldn't be enabled and to contact Customer Services. I tried texting again and was sent a message saying that MMS wouldn't be available until 3.0 was released on the 17th June and to try again then. The following morning I tried sending and receiving another MMS and nothing happened - even sending failed. I checked the APN settings and again found the MMS one had returned to idata.o2.co.uk so I altered it to wap.o2.co.uk again and within seconds I received a confirmation message from O2 to say MMS was enabled (I guess it had been sat waiting for me to get online). Over the course of this morning the MMS APN reset itself a number of times, cause unknown (I only noticed because I deliberately went to check it). It has remained as wap.o2.co.uk since lunchtime though so perhaps whatever was resetting it (perhaps an automated system at O2's end) has stopped trying. Fingers crossed it doesn't come back ;)

Regards, Alec

The issue I'm having is that the MMS setting isn't showing up at all. There are no signs on my iPhone, anywhere, that MMS exists for it. I'm on pay monthly, and have an iPhone 1G.

People with a 2G (i.e. you) can't send MMS even with 3.0...when you receive one, your network e.g. O2 will text you with a link to view the picture message on their site.

I suspected that. I'm baffled. Why? The 2G iPhone should be able to send MMS's just fine! EDGE has been used for MMS since forever!

I am actually going to buy the 3G S, but still - that pisses me off.

recieved a text from 1010.

"Hello. We know you are waiting for MMS to be set up on yor iPhone. We're sorry. We are working as fast as we can and you should be set up within a few hours."

just installed the O2 profile off the guide about 30mins ago and got this message just now. I couldnt get MMS or tethering to work.
