Thanks so much for pointing that out. From now on I’ll resurrect threads from the Paleozoic era instead of starting a new thread.

If the old thread is perfectly relevant to your topic, then resurrecting the old thread (rather than clogging the board with a new one) is actually the usual messageboard etiquette. Some boards are pretty harsh on users who needlessly start new/duplicative threads. This one is more relaxed about it, I admit.

Hi there,

After reading carefully each one of your replies, I have a huge update for everyone:

- My iPhone 4s was stolen on January 8 2014. It’s still locked with iCloud and erase pending. It never became online after that day.

- I replaced it with an iPhone 5S 64GB Space Gray. It’s still alive and kicking.

- My current iPhone is a 6s Plus 128GB, still in pristine condition, purchased in November 2015. It has no scratches on the back or sides because I always used it inside an original leather case from Apple. It’s screen has some hairline scratches, though. But I I no longer care about them.

- I will not buy the iPhone XS Max because it’s too fat and heavy. And the upcoming version is almost here within a few months.

- I believe that the next generation of iPhone will be slimmer, will have an smaller notch and a better camera than the XS Max. I will buy that one for sure.

- I am an app developer. Feel free to check my apps for musicians in this link: https://itunes.apple.com/us/developer/pedro-daniel-macalupu-cumpen/id492172409?mt=8

Have a nice day everyone, see you soon

I’ve never heard of using home insurance to fix your phone.

Mine won’t. [I’ve also never heard of that, and I highly question how ‘Home insurance’ would even consider the liability of a phone given it’s a ‘tech device‘ with a lot of ‘hazard like‘ vulnerabilities it encounters on a daily basis], The only other in type of insurance that I know with a ‘back door’, would be through a credit card company.

Mine covers accidental damage on electrical items up to a cost of £10k outside of the property. iPhones are specifically mentioned in the policy. Question all you like but maybe in your countries this isn’t an option. My bank also covers my iPhone as part of my banking setup.

Not here in the USA. It has to get stolen out of the house at minimum. We break it, we pay to fix it (if we dont pay for insurance from the carrier), or get another phone. Which is what im going to do because my S9 screen is shattered enough to where i cant see some things very well.

That’s fair enough. It’s come in handy in the past when my wife slammed her iPhone in the car door as it slipped from her pocket. I’ve also had a Samsung TV repaired but obviously you have to weigh up what is worth claiming for. iPhones started being named on policies back in around 2010 here if I remember. It used to be a question insurers asked before quoting when more people starting getting iPhones. It’s now standard.

Doesn’t that affect your premiums at all? Seems extravagant. I’m down in the dirt like most sheople. I pay for separate insurance for my home, car, and phone. Everyone gets a piece of me 🤘🏻

I tend to shop around each year anyway so it tends to be minimal, plus I haven’t claimed for anything in years. I pay £350-400 a year. I wouldn’t say it’s extravagant when you consider AppleCare is £199 and then £25 or £79 per claim depending on the damage caused, not to mention it only covers Apple products. It might be a very convenient service in terms of being an easy transaction, but it’s a hefty premium nonetheless. I know the leading consumer reviewer in the UK surveyed it and suggested some of those people that have it often don’t realise they are already covered. Just my opinion, I just don’t see the point of it. I haven’t personally damaged a phone in perhaps 17 years and if I do, I know I have options without giving Apple another couple of hundred quid on top of the already very expensive phone I have purchased from them.

One thing that drives me crazy is fingerprints/smudges on the screen.

Having an iPhone with a full screen is the worst for this lol. Can’t stand it on the iPad either.

Wish some company can come up with some sorta fingerprint resistant screen :p

I feel you. I've had multiple Xr's and iPhone 11's. Every single one had a small spec of debris in either the front or back camera. I finally just learned how to open it up and fix it on my own. Bought ani fixit repair kit, new gasket and was simple as hell.

Went through about 4 MacBook Airs and each one had a dead pixel, usually looked like a pin hole of light on an all back screen. Picked up an MacBook Pro and seems good so far.

I'm more concerned with quality control issues from the factory. Scuffs and issues caused by me don't bother me much.

Ok, this is ruining my life... and maybe its happening the same to some of you too.

I'm tired of buying microfiber cloths and expensive polishes just for seeking perfection in my apple gadgets and worrying too much about them.

How can i get over this? Please suggest an efficient way to forget this imperfections that will appear under normal product usage.

Any suggestions will be really appreciated.

Thank you.
All apple gear are gadgets meant to be used... And thats it, stop worshipping them, start just using them...

In 2012, when this thread started, I was using an iPhone 4 that I worked hard to keep scratch free for the two years I used it. At the time Zagg invisible skins were pretty popular (and anything but invisible), and I had one on all of my devices because I wanted to keep them pristine.

I really don't feel the need to baby Apple products any more, I have found that the stainless steel used on iPhones and Apple watch are extremely scratch resistant. I'm currently using a series 5 apple watch and have an iPhone XS Max, both gold. They come with me everywhere and both look like the day I bought them. The Watch is particularly impressive considering everything I use it for.

I always put my iPhones in a slim case (currently Speck slider with room for a credit card, my driver’s license and a tri-folded $20).

I did not use a screen protector for 3gs on ip to 6s. The 7 and 8 iPhones seemed like they could get dinged easier (no sure if the material is different from prior gen screens or not). I’ve used a Zagg protectors on those two models for me and family members.

Minor blemishes show your device is actually used.

The device is made of aluminium to survive minor bumps and scrapes. They're disposable computing products, bumps and scrapes are part of the expected life of the product.

I don't run any protection on ny of my devices - I feel covers and cases detract from the feel of using and carrying the product - more so than minor cosmetic blemishes, if they happen.

Just... don't care? You're unlikely to have it more than 2-3 years and then turn it in, throw it in a drawer, give it away or sell it and get a new one. It's not like its a valuable/ irreplaceable antique.

It’s like when you own your first Rolex. After awhile you realize it is a tool like anything else and just use it. Maintenance intervals should be expected. Also these phones are not built like a Rolex, I was just using the brand as a reference. But I did own an ‘83 Pepsi GMT that I recently sold against my better judgement.
