You will get far more money for your phone on Ebay than from companies like Gazelle, even after the listing and selling fees. Gazelle pays less than half the market price for your phone.
Less than half is an exaggeration. They are offering $355 for an unlocked iPhone 6 perfect condition. If lucky I could get $500 minus 15% in fees from eBay and PayPal after the release of the new phone. So I'm looking at about 425 plus the risk of eBay scams and Paypals lovely 180 day policy now. No thanks. NextWorth at $405 is a great price for no hassle, no risk.

Almost like another Ad. All of the bad options are at the top.

I understand some people want to avoid the hassle of sell it yourself, even though it gives a much better price. But as long as you're going to trade it in, why avoid the carriers? It's relatively simple, and often it allows you to get some additional promotion, rebate, or bill credit. Generally T-Mobile and Sprint have the better offers in this regard.

I have T-Mobile...so I'm going to be using one of my 3 yearly upgrades on a shiny new 6S Plus :D:D:D

Was just checking out NextWorth and had to use chat to find out what to select for an Unlocked model (AT&T apparently). At the end of the chat, the rep gave me the code NEW0915, that gave me an extra 10%! YMMV but certainly made it an easy decision for me to use them.

You keep those guys in business!

I netted over $500 on my 64GB iPhone 6 last week on eBay. I thought that was very satisfactory. I may try something like swappa next time - I've been hearing it's good.

Let me remind everyone that this is also a great time to find that family member or friend who is stuck with a crap phone, and make their day with the best early Christmas present ever.

If you're not really hurting for money and want to do some good, giving your old phone to someone you care about when you upgrade is a wonderful thing. :) I just did this with my previous iPhone 5 myself.

But you are giving yourself a nicer present than what you are giving away. It's better to give than to receive. Haha

This. I locked in a Gazelle offer of $415 for a 64 GB gold Plus (AT&T), same as NextWorth is offering. It is worth it for me to avoid the hassle, fees, and stress you mention - even if it costs me some money.

What wrong with iPhone 6 (which was so awesome not long before)?

This trade in mentality must stop. Apple is supporting these iPhones 4 years with iOS updates, and if you pay $650 and more, it is better to keep it for at least two years...

These phones don't exactly hold "value" past the first year. As all technology does, over time "lose" value. You may as well sell it for as much as you can each year, and get a new one. If you can get $500 for one of these phones, and you may only owe $300 (just an example). You just made $200 back. Now, if your really hell bent on keeping your phone for 4 years. Go right ahead. But, it will function slower over that period of time. The battery will not hold a charge as well as it used to. You will miss out on any new features that have come out over that 4 year period of time, etc. Just cause it is supported doesn't mean you get anything new other then the OS, and ability to run current software (to a point).

To me, it makes no sense to hold on to old phones. They do so much, and updates make them do more. Why keep something that simply can't do it as well as the new one? Especially, if you can cut down on the cost of a new one by selling the old one?

Never use any of these services. Never pay a middle man. In 99.99% of cases, you can sell your 6/6+ device on Craigslist for at least $500-600 depending on storage size and which device.

People really accept $300 for a 6/6+? People are willing to pay so much more; that's why the large companies pay that in the first place.

This is what I'm doing. My 75 year old grandma has an iPhone 5 but doesn't want to get tied to the AT&T Next thing, so she's getting my iPhone 6 when I upgrade.

Trade-ins are a rip-off but there's nothing wrong with upgrading your iPhone every year or two provided you sell your old one for good money somewhere like eBay.

I used to do that, when only way to get the iPhone was with 2 years worth of contract. not anymore.

If the 6s gets a mLED display and I know some people will say it's a big 'If', the iPhone 6 will be considered far from awesome. This 's' model upgrade may be the biggest one ever, offering more than the iPhone 5s offered over the iPhone 5.

I sold my iPhone 4 on Craigslist for $225 9 months ago. Carriers were offering $20-50. Anyone on Craigslist will buy a 6 for $500 or more, it might take a day or two to get a bite, but someone will buy it. Sold my 5S for $450 and it was more than a year old. Seriously, don't use these mail-in places, they are a hassle and most times will "re-evaluate" their offer once they receive it.

As I understand it, AT&T Next is a purely optional payment plan for the phone. As an alternative to paying its full price up front, you can get it for free or at a reduced price and finance the balance as an add-on charge to your monthly cell phone bill over a period of one or two years or so.

Trade in now for the best price and be left without an iPhone in hopes you can get one on release day. No thanks.

The problem with craigslist is having to meet some stranger in person, with the associated risks and potential hassles thereof. You can get just as much on eBay without the hassle or risk.

That is how it works, but she's on a limited budget and she'd rather get my hand me down. She would rather save that $30 or so a month for other things.

To me $500 before the announcement of the new one seems a little low. I've seen them go for $600. So the fact that I'm getting $405 after the announcement and after the new one is already in my hands is a good deal to me.
