What wrong with iPhone 6 (which was so awesome not long before)?

This trade in mentality must stop. Apple is supporting these iPhones 4 years with iOS updates, and if you pay $650 and more, it is better to keep it for at least two years...

But we want the latest and greatest. We can't sleep at night if we don't have the very best out there.

Was just checking out NextWorth and had to use chat to find out what to select for an Unlocked model (AT&T apparently). At the end of the chat, the rep gave me the code NEW0915, that gave me an extra 10%! YMMV but certainly made it an easy decision for me to use them.

Thanks! Now my iPhone 6 is worth $445, $145 more than AT&T wants to give me.

I'll be interested to see if AT&T gives current customers an option to trade in even older phones for credit like they did last year. Last year I traded in my iPhone 4 for $200 credit. It wasn't dependent on having to buy a new phone on NEXT as I already have purchased a iPhone 6 before that offer came out. I was able to apply it to my monthly bills for the next few months.

To me $500 before the announcement of the new one seems a little low. I've seen them go for $600. So the fact that I'm getting $405 after the announcement and after the new one is already in my hands is a good deal to me.
Mine sold for almost $600. I said net.

The only reason for a reader of MacRumors to wait until after the announcement to sell it is he has no fallback phone (or doesn't care about the additional depreciation). My dusted-off 5S is doing fine for me right now.

Given your circumstances you're getting a good deal. It's just not the best deal. I also could've done better by avoiding eBay fees, but I'm familiar with selling on eBay, so that made it relatively easy to sell it before the depreciation hit.

With Nextworth, do you lock in the price and decide later that you want to sell or not. Or is it a contract that you must sell no matter what?

Can you still use the code after they've emailed you the offer? I have the same $405 offer that was emailed to me already.

I called them, had them cancel that offer and started a new one. I used the code for my 6 and my girlfriend's 5s.

You can call and cancel your order, so I'm sure its not a contract. Nothing states you are obligated to continue.

Just did a net worth trade in. they are offering me $429 with that promo code for a iPhone 6 unlocked 16gb. The offer is valid for a month, so ill wait to see sell value on eBay after the release and then can just decide what best option. Doesn't hurt to lock in a good trade value now, you don't actually have to do it

If you go with Amazon, always choose the option to have the device returned to you if they judge the condition to be lower than you think it is. I got screwed when I sold my 5s last year. They rated it as "poor" and only gave me $100 for it.

Has anyone ever been denied or paid less than expected? In other words, have any of these places said your phone was in worse condition (worth less) than you believed?

With the "iPhone 6s" and "iPhone 6s Plus" expected to be announced at Apple's September 9th media event, and released a few weeks later, now is the time for prospective upgraders to begin exploring trade-in and resale options for their current iPhone or Android-based smartphone.

Getting the best value for your iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 5s or other current smartphone can help offset a significant portion of your next iPhone purchase, but resale and trade-in prices will drop significantly between now and the launch of new iPhones, so it is best to move fast.

MacRumors compared iPhone trade-in prices from various services using a 16GB iPhone 6 from AT&T as a baseline.

Trade-In Programs

Gazelle announced today that it is offering a Best Price Guarantee on iPhone 6, 6 Plus and 5s trade-ins until September 9th, promising to beat the trade-in values offered by Apple and carriers AT&T, Verizon, Sprint and T-Mobile.

Gazelle's Best Price Guarantee covers all storage sizes and colors and includes a 30-day grace period, meaning that you can lock in your trade-in price now and wait until you have your new iPhone before sending in your current one.

Average Price (16GB/AT&T): $301 (iPhone 6), $326 (iPhone 6 Plus), $166 (iPhone 5s)
Payment Method: Check by Mail, Amazon Gift Card, PayPal or Charitable Donation
Resale Method: Ship iPhone to Gazelle (Free)

NextWorth offers a similar trade-in service as Gazelle for the iPhone 4 through iPhone 6 Plus. NextWorth quotes are valid for 30 days, allowing you to lock in a trade-in price on your current iPhone and ship it after receiving your new iPhone.

NextWorth offers higher prices on average for the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus than Gazelle, with trade-in values up to $480, although it depends on the specific model and condition of the smartphone. Completing a checklist about the condition of the smartphone is required.

Average Price (16GB/AT&T): $320 (iPhone 6), $360 (iPhone 6 Plus), $160 (iPhone 5s)
Payment Method: Check by Mail, Discover Prepaid Card, PayPal or Target Gift Card
Payment Process: Ship iPhone to NextWorth (Free)

Amazon runs a trade-in store where you can search for the iPhone model that you want to trade in and receive a price quote. After answering a few questions about the condition of the smartphone and entering your shipping address, you can print off a shipping label to mail the iPhone for free in exchange for an Amazon Gift Card.

Average Price (16GB/AT&T): $360 (iPhone 6), $389 (iPhone 6 Plus), $175 (iPhone 5s)
Payment Method: Amazon Gift Card
Payment Process: Ship iPhone to Amazon (Free)

I'm in the market for a 32GB or 64GB iPhone 5S or 5C. It has to be in perfect condition, you should have treated that phone like a baby. And I absolutely require all original accessories and the box. I prefer to buy iPhones used, it's much much cheaper, and the seller benefits because you get way more than those trade in programs which rip you off.

My thoughts were of trading in my wife's 5c, giving her my 6 and getting a 6s. But swappa looks like almost twice what Apple is offering. And yet I am still not sure if its worth buying the 6s or just keeping the 6 for another year. DECISIONS

  • used iPhone 5s are going between $250-300 on ebay. ebay is the only place I do business with

$250 - 10% (Ebay fees) - 2.9% (PayPal fees) - $20 (shipping + insurance + required signature on delivery) = $197

...and then there's the work you put into taking pictures, creating a listing, waiting, responding to buyers who want you to do shady things, and running the risk of having buyers complaining after the sale and dinging your rating.

I have a question for Apple fans. Is it silly of me to want to keep each of my iPhones I've used since I started buying an iPhone? My first was a 4s. I got to the 5s now and I'm waiting for the 6s. I think it will be cool to one day look back and see you collection of phones/tech. I don't expect to make money on them one day. It's mainly to have the collection. Is this a stupid idea?

I gave away my 4s to someone who couldn't afford an iPhone. I'm thinking of giving them the 5s and keeping the 4s for myself. Then in the future recuperating the 5s. I'm not making money on them now anyways.

If the 6s gets a mLED display and I know some people will say it's a big 'If', the iPhone 6 will be considered far from awesome.

If you meant to say AMOLED you must be joking. That technology (favored by Samsung) is garbage for any display meant to display high quality photos. The color balance is completely off, rewiring the user to switch to different modes to view different types of content. The only way Apple will every use such a display on an iPhone or iPad is if a future iteration resolves the current color issues.

It's not silly, provided you understand how much money you're throwing away (about $500 per year) and are OK with that.

I recently sold my 64GB iPhone 6 Plus AT&T Software Unlocked and it was a miserable experience.

I originally listed it on Craigslist to avoid fees. Started the price at $700 and lowered it to $550 over the course of 4 weeks. All legitimate offers I got were basically less than $500. I got some $520-$550 offers early on, but of course nobody wants to pay asking price.

I live in a city of 200k people and with neighboring towns well over 500k people and still couldn't sell the damn thing. Plus all of the stupid emails you get asking if it is still available and then no response after, or my personal favorite "what is the lowest you will take" as if that is how negotiations work.

After wasting 4 weeks and making me angrier than Hell, I listed it on eBay for $650 (Buy It Now with Offers enabled) and sold it there for $640. Of course I had to pay eBay 10% and PayPal 2.9% in fees, but ended up getting the $550 I had it on Craigslist for without having to get killed meeting a stranger.

Of course Gazelle was $415, so I didn't go that route. I am happy to be leasing my phones now so I won't have to go through that exercise ever again.

NextWorth quoted $405. Selling on eBay for $500-600, which is about #450-540 net. I've sold tons of stuff on eBay and I don't consider it a hassle.. Certainly not one worth throwing away $100 or more. But for those who insist on selling to a company, NextWorth appears FAR better than Gazelle and others.

Only reason I updated my iPhone 4 to a 6 is because the battery on the 4 was flatlining and performance with iOS8 was dire. If they offered a replacement service that wasn't £60 I'd be more more inclined to just keep replacing batteries than devices.
