Got two 4S on launch day. Had to pre-order at 3:00 AM EDT within first 15 min. For 5S, pre-ordered 2 within first 5 min. got 16GB space gray on launch day. Got the 32 GB Gold approx 40 days later.

I think there may be a lot of people whose legacy 2 year contracts are ending that were still under that contract last year--people who currently have the 5s model. I have a feeling it's gonna be a zoo again this year. Then again, if Apple increases supply that could make a difference as you say.

With 5S, AT&T enforced a complete 24 months upgrade eligibility. Earlier, I was eligible to upgrade after 16 months. With 24 months, I will be eligible to upgrade on 9/21 or 9/22, which will be past the pre-order start date. And, I will have to order from AT&T. NOT at all happy with that.

I pre-ordered 4S online on the Apple store site. Stayed up till 3am and the Apple site crashed. Couldn't order it and I was so upset. Wake up at 8:30 and start freaking out. Meant to wakeup earlier to order it. Got on the site real quick that morning and ordered it. 4S came a week later and it was perfect.

Best advice is stay up till 3:01am EST or 12:01am EST and order it online. Be willing to stay up an extra hour if the site goes down or is slow to respond. Last year was pandemonium because stock was low to begin with the on the + size and Apple had not made bigger devices before. A ton of people had been waiting for larger screen sizes. People still on the 4S probably had been waiting. More upgrades were used which created the havoc. This year could be similar. Most likely you won't have a problem. Usually the S iteration is just tweaks and a few new changes internally so people don't think anything of it. Number iterations are the physical changes which gets everyone excited.
Every year, it gets worse than the year before. they do report greater numbers every year. It's not going to be different this year.

Wake up at 12:01am (PST time), pre-order and you'll get it on day 1.

I did that with prior iPhones, though I waited a while for the IP6+ since I wanted to see how things shook out.
Even doing that, the plus models didn't arrive day one, but this is the best way to give yourself a shot at getting the phone day 1.

I'm wondering how the Next plan will work with pre-order and can I even order in advance like I have in the past. I have a Next plan phone that I am planning to turn in to exchange for the 6S Plus coming out. If I order will I get to turn in my old phone later and can I do the order via Apple? AT&T only? Just not sure this year. In the past I owned the phone or handed it down in the family. No one here wants a 6+ at my house, its too big for them.

When I did it, I never had a problem. I may end up selling my plus and getting a smaller 6s - I'm on the fence. I want a smaller phone, I'm not sure I want to spend the money at this point

Do all the international stores accept pre-orders from 0:01PT, or for the UK store will it be at midnight GMT?

I have to come up with a plan somehow. The crazy thing about these iPhone launches is its different every time somehow.

And you'll never know which iPhones will be getting shipped to what store.

I camp out at the Apple Store-mostly for the fun experience of camping out with other hyped up Apple fans. I camped last year at my local Apple Store. I got there at 6 PM and was 64th in line and I had no problems getting my iPhone (6 64 GB Space Gray). That is the almost surefire way to get one on launch day, as long as you get there early enough. There was some serious scalping going on this last year, so 1 or 2 people after me they ran out of all 6+ models. As long as you get there early, you'll be golden.

If you pre-order, you'll have to stay up and keep Command-R ing or Alt-F5 ing until the store opens and place your order immediately. With the Apple Watch, that's what I did. I had some issues with my shipping address and Credit Card which didn't allow me to get the model I wanted, but I did get my second choice on launch day.

Either way you go, the earlier you line up/pre-order, the better off you'll be.

I ordered midway through the first day pre-orders were available for the 6 and had no problems getting my phone on release day.

Has anyone ever gotten the newest iPhone within the first day? I never have. It's always sold out, but this year I wanna do my preorder. So I have a plan.

What tips to you have to be the first?

I stood in line to get the 6 Plus at the Apple store on launch day. I went there around 2 pm, and walked out with a 6 Plus around 5 pm. So it is possible that you can still get your hands on one on launch day. They do the reservation system so that you don't have to stand in line and you can come back any time later that day to pick it up.

I'm pretty sure Apple will use this same set up again for this year.

I walked straight into a carrier store about an hour after launch...picked up the latest iPhone without waiting in line...

That's unbelievable.

You should've seen the line in Boston. It was wrapped around the store and all the way down several blocks.

I went to my local Verizon store on launch day last year around 4 PM Chicago time, and they had the 6 and 6+ in stock. Walked in and edged up...

I did this in Davenport, Ia. The store had no line and just walked right in and got a gold 64GB iPhone 6 on launch day! This year I'm not sure how it will work. I don't have an upgrade until October but with the new plans, I don't know if I can go earlier or still have to wait.

It has been worse in the past, but they have improved it over the years. What kind of change do you think would be better? :)
I liked what they did with the Apple Watch. It was so genius. You could reserve a spot to pick it up. They should just do reservations everywhere.

Can you imagine what we're going to have to do next month? We'll have to be checking some online stock tracker to make sure we can lock in our device and then when you go to the store it MIGHT be there.

That's what I don't like. I don't like not knowing the inventory. The geniuses always say "we never know what we're going to get until we get it" and "we don't know when they'll arrive"

You should just be able to lock in your device online and then pick it up within a scheduled time frame.

But it's different for me this time because I'll be dealing with T-Mobile this time. So I'll be at their store waiting.

And you know what, I'm not even going to try to go to a store further out that i assume would be less of a line, I'm going right to the main, most popular flagship T-Mobile in Boston. The one right on Newbury street. Why? Because I know they'll set me up with my iPhone 6s/7 with the Jump upgrade.

And I know they'll have stock. They're dependable.

I'm just gonna have to be the first one there.

And yes, I'm camping out this time.

iPhone 6 was the first iPhone I got at launch, and all I did was preorder it online and walked right into the Apple store.

There were no lines, no waiting times. (Even though the Apple store had set up the waiting line rope)

It may have something to do with one's location.

I have to go to AT&T because I'm upgrading via Next. I want a pink one or rose gold if one of these colors are released and isn't hideous. Since they supposedly will be high demand phones and I want 128GB storage I'll probably have to wait a month or two or more. Sigh.

Whether it's an S version or a new version, it's always good. Tbh the S versions always bring something irresistibly new. It always introduces some new never-before-seen technology.

The S versions are better than the first version.

After the 4, you got the improved iPhone 4 with Siri. After the 5, you got the improved 5 with Touch ID.

So we will undoubtedly be seeing something spectacular this time around too.

I'm moving from Android to Apple and need 3 new phones for myself and the family.

I don't have an Apple store in my neck of the woods. I do have 1 Best Buy and a few AT&T stores.

Any advice on how to get my phones on contract? Camping out is not an option for me either.
