How to Get the new iPhone Day One

That's unbelievable.

You should've seen the line in Boston. It was wrapped around the store and all the way down several blocks.
Admittedly we are talking Adelaide here.... I walked up to the Apple Store the morning of release, looked at the line and said to myself 'nope!'. I walked about 150m down the street and straight into a telco store. I had one in my hot little hands within minutes.

This will be my first time upgrading with Jump so I hope to get some info on the process before the phone goes live. I think T-Mobile will get us info on pre-orders. The good news is I have a 6 Plus so if I have to wait a week or two I'm fine with that. Thats not to say I wouldn't like to have one on launch day.

Whether it's an S version or a new version, it's always good. Tbh the S versions always bring something irresistibly new. It always introduces some new never-before-seen technology.

The S versions are better than the first version.

After the 4, you got the improved iPhone 4 with Siri. After the 5, you got the improved 5 with Touch ID.

So we will undoubtedly be seeing something spectacular this time around too.

I sure hope they have something of that magnitude to show off. If they use Force Touch as the headline feature, I highly doubt the average consumer will want to upgrade.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but any and all current rumors are not showing anything that would be considered spectacular.

Has anyone ever gotten the newest iPhone within the first day? I never have. It's always sold out, but this year I wanna do my preorder. So I have a plan.

What tips to you have to be the first?

not really. that's probably because they tend not to have unlocked version on launch day. there's no point of waiting in line at the store either if they don't sell it.
i couldn't get my unlocked 5S until january, and didn't get my 6 plus until december last year. these are all normal price, unlocked/unsubsidized.
it's probably easier to get what you want if you're doing the subsidy thing.

I know, but I still have some hope that Apple has a feature planned for the 6s that no one knows about.

If you buy any model at full price, it is unlocked. I bought my T-Mobile iPhone 6 last year on day one, and I could use it on any GSM carrier. Some others bought Verizon phones outright and they could use them on any carrier, CDMA or GSM (except Sprint). As long as you buy outright, the phone is unlocked. You don't have to wait for the official "unlocked" models to come out.

I went to my T-Mobile today and they said that I would be able to get the iPhone 6s within a reasonable amount of time as long as I get there around 9am.

They said it wasn't that crazy even for the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus.

Wait a few weeks, listen to complaints or impressions of camera, speed, lag if any, than purchase perhaps online. ;)

... I may end up selling my plus and getting a smaller 6s - I'm on the fence. I want a smaller phone...
I'm seriously thinking of going the opposite way: From a 6 to a 6s+. I'm thinking a plus could replace both my phone and my aging iPad 4. Am I crazy? What do you not like about the plus? Any particular scenarios you cold mention?

FWIW, I have a watch too, which I love - although I'm not sold on speakerphone calls in public. Are phone calls awkward with the plus?

Got two 4S on launch day. Had to pre-order at 3:00 AM EDT within first 15 min. For 5S, pre-ordered 2 within first 5 min. got 16GB space gray on launch day. Got the 32 GB Gold approx 40 days later.

There will be significant differences in options this release. All relating to a 6s purchased in an Apple Store versus a Carrier's Brick and Mortar. :apple:

Which is what? Hard to find at a B&M?

I don't have a Apple Store near me and I was hoping my AT&T store would have a few

If you want it, wait in line or go online.

By the way, OP used to troll around here all the time. He seems to have an issue with keeping iPhones from getting lost/stolen.

I've done pre-orders through the app in the past, and that worked well. Setup payment beforehand, and set an alarm. Ordered without getting up and then back to sleep. Delivered on launch day.

I've also gotten pretty lucky to get phones within 1-3 days of launch at Best Buy, by watching the stock locator online. It all depends on what model/carrier you need, and what they get in. Some stores will hold for you if you call, others won't.

I want to stick to my 2-year plan option, and since Apple online no longer offers that with AT&T, I'm a bit worried. :/

No idea what that means?

Will be very dependent on your Carrier/Type of Plan/Change of Use/Plan.

There will be options only available to phones sold in Carrier Online orders and B&M's, and options only available for Apple Online Orders or in Apple B&M's. :apple:
