According to Apples documentation iCloud backups include Health Data

They are only backed up in iTunes if you encrypt the backup. If you backup to iTunes without encryption no health data is included. It is always included in iCloud since there is no other option than encrypted backups to I iCloud

Two new iPhone 7, iCloud backups, no Health Data restored. Maybe if restored to same device it would work. Not for me when upgrading from SE. The only option was encrypted via iTunes. Maybe a bug, not a feature.

Stupid but serious question...

If I use iCloud with everything enabled, why would I need to back-up to a mac?

It's been discussed numerous times above your question. To sum it up, cloud has not always been 100% reliable on backups especially when updating iOS. Back it up on iTunes for a backup of the backup.

Numerous times? Mea culpa.

I made a third party screen replacement for my iPhone. How should I approach this update? Will I face any problem?

Local backup with iTunes is better if you can do it. If you check the encrypted box like the article suggests it will save all your app passwords if you ever need to restore, saving you having to reenter them all. An iCloud backup won't do that.
The only reason why I am backing up to the cloud now is because we are also getting a major macOS update (major as in new file system) and as a safety measure, to avoid twice the amount of data loss, I am backing my iPhone to the cloud.

Honestly, it’s really frustrating that a lot of “tech reviewers” and sites like these don’t call Apple out. iOS 11 is one of the buggiest releases I’ve ever endured. People kept saying “Wait for the GM.” Well, it’s here, and it feels completely unpolished. I have random lockup’s and freezes. 3D Touch lagg is utterly unacceptable, there’s an incredible amount of dropped frames just going in an out of apps etc. I’ve done clean installs, installs from back ups and tried 3-4 different devices. Apples attention to detail, as far as iOS, is completely gone. I used to laugh at Android for its quirks, half baked features and sloppy design, now the roles have reversed. Please spare me the usual “My device is blazing fast” or “Yours must be defective.” My devices are fine, it’s IOS that has become a sloppy nightmare. Bring back the fit and finish IOS pre-iOS 7 days.
iOS sloppier than Android? riiiiight

I'm not going to install iOS 11 on launch day as there is bound to be something major wrong with it based on previous experience.

I have to questions ones eyesight when they say they see zero lagg. Invoking 3D Touch on my 7 plus is so choppy its disgusting.
No 3D Touch lag here on my 7.

Have upgraded day-of every single year -- Never had an issue.

Aside from bugs, I think the iCloud backup also doesn't include everything (though it can probably be re-downloaded). If you backup to the computer, you probably get a quicker, more full restore (with less re-downloading).
(Though, with iTunes not doing apps anymore... not sure if that impacts it or not.)

Having used the S8, Pixel XL and the Note 8, I can say that android has caught up to iOS as far as fluidity is concerned. Mostly vanilla android aka Pixel devices. The days of “its an iPhone, there must be no issues” are over.

Or maybe you didn't wait long enough for the health data to download from iCloud? it's definitely included in an icloud backup.
Been a month, only Health Data new on iPhone to today. Nothing earlier then new iPhone. Not sure how long one needs to wait. :D

Another advice I will give is to double check the backup of each of your games (especially online games) within the games. Make sure you have the accounts and/or passwords to each of your games just in case iTunes does not restore your game account along with your game.

I second this sentiment.

I think I want to do a complete device wipe and sign into iCloud, then download the apps I need one at a time as I have way too many apps.

What do you guys think?

not a bad plan. if you have no need for your old messages and you account for your photos.

So to confirm if I have public beta GM now , just delete the profile now and I’ll get the release iOS 11 tomorrow ?

in theory yes. but I have found that sometimes theory and reality aren't the same. and when in the past I just did an upgrade from beta to public I found that I had a lot of issues and ended up doing an iOS restore anyway. so now when I'm switching I do the whole backup, restore and restore backup game.

Prior to updating:
  1. Check to see if there are any mission critical 32-bit apps. Launch the Settings app | About | Applications. If any are important, find a 64-bit replacement or wait for vendor to update the app.
  2. Free up space if needed as recommended in this article.
  3. Manually backup in iTunes as recommended in this article.
  4. Make sure you know the iCloud password, especially when you are upgrading someone else's device.
  5. Set aside 30-60 minutes for the update to complete.
After updating:
  1. Launch the Phone app | Voicemails. If the list of voice mail is empty, restart the phone.
  2. Launch the Settings app | Camera | Formats. Select High Efficiency to use HEVC (video) and HEIF (photos) format, which will cut storage space by about half.
  3. Launch the Settings app | Photos | Transfer to Mac or PC. Use Automatic if use apps that do not support new file formats, Keep Originals otherwise (or if you primarily use Photos app and intend to upgrade to macOS High Sierra next Monday).
  4. If you have family, consider upgrading to 200MB ($2.99/month) or 2TB ($9.99/month) iCloud plan and turn on iCloud Family Sharing. Launch the Settings app | top banner | iCloud | Manage Storage | Family Usage.
This is awesome! I just hope I can find this when I actually upgrade to 11.1 (not jumping into this one too quickly). Thank you!

Apple needs to bring Scott Forstall back. iOS updates were smooth and worked well back when he was there. Notifications always worked too! Now I just get the number badge on some apps without the text in notification centre. So annoying.

I'm staying on iOS 10 because I refuse to have to update iTunes. I don't want to lose the ability to keep apps downloaded into iTunes.

My 6S is on 10.1.1 and Jailbroken and my iPad Mini is on 9 something and jailbroken. My iPad pro/6S+/SE/5S are all on 10.3.1.

Not in a hurry this time around, hoping to get an 8 soon and don't want to stuff up my 5s before I sell it!

Be ruthless – you can always re-install removed apps at a later date if you change your mind.

That's DANGEROUS advice, because iOS, being the toy OS it is, doesn't have reasonable ways to get back app data.

Yes, if you had iCloud for the app activated or another cloud storage things will be fine, but to blatantly say "be ruthless, there is no risk" is straight up irresponsible to say.

Creating an iTunes backup is no longer feasible for most people

Laptop SSDs are like 512GB standard

Is someone has a 128 or 256 GB phone... forget about it
Get proper data storage.

Hell, even if you're cheap you can wait for a Synology NAS for under 150USD and get reasonable wireless (to the computer) storage that sets you free from a lot of things, the least of which is the tiny iTunes library you must have.

And you CAN mix storage locations for iTunes, because Apple didn't touch a lot of its inner workings to dumb it down like the rest of their apps.

Not yet at least...

No doubt someone wiser than me may offer a different solution, but as iOS11 stores SMS & iMessages in the cloud, why not upgrade to 11 as a normal update, make sure it's all backed up, then do a full reset & reinstall?
Unfortunately this feature won't be available until a later point in time, which is why I have this issue. Guess I'll just wait for that feature to be released and do a complete erase then.

Just my experience FWIW, but after installing iOS 11 OTA over 10.3.3 the battery life was horrific, would die in 8 hours mixed usage. Restored to 11 and set up as new phone and the battery is almost at iOS 10 longevity.

iPhone 7 128gb.
