I can see why people want apps to be hidden, but I don't see whats so annoying about having it just on the last page of a folder. Or a seperate page on your home screen.
Agreed. If they apps are still installed and taking up space (including their data and possibly CPU load), then I don't see why it matters if the icon is visible or not.

I don't want to just hide it. I want to remove it. And if necessary redownload it from the app store.
Agreed. It should be possible to remove (and re-install from the app store) just about everything. The only apps that I might say must be un-deletable would be the App Store (of course) and the Phone app.

It's clear from your other post that you don't have an iPhone, but let me put 16GB devices into perspective for you. 100MB is less than 1% of available storage on a 16GB iPhone. Besides, those people bought a 16GB device.
It's not a matter of the cost. If it's an app that I want, then any size (that doesn't cripple the phone of course) is fine. If it's an app that I don't want, then even one byte is too large. Every unwanted app that gets removed frees up space that some other, wanted, app could be using.

I think you have your wires crossed, there's bloat then there's stock apps, two separate things.

On Android, bloat can take up gigabytes of storage, stock apps only take up a small amount of space.
That's entirely a function of which apps you're talking about and whether or not you want them.

Every Android phone I've seen comes with Facebook and YouTube (among many other) apps pre-loaded. And they can't be removed without hacking the phone. These are hardly small apps of no consequence. They are large and they may consume CPU power (and battery) even when not running (as was recently reported, WRT Facebook's app.)

If you don't use these apps, let me tell you that all you need is a flip phone. Seriously!
That doesn't follow. Maybe he uses third-party apps that he prefers to the ones Apple provides.

I do all my navigation with Google Maps. I'd love to be rid of Apple Maps, which for me is redundant and wasting space. You could make similar arguments for Notes, Mail, Reminders, Calendar, and just about everything else.

I know many people whose app usage consists entirely of games. For them, just about all of the bundled apps are wasting space. I don't think they would be happy with a flip phone either.

It's 100MB. That's 0.2% the capacity of a 64GB phone. It's nothing. Get over it.

If you've ever been all the way down to 0% free space, an extra 100MB isn't going to help you.

Can I steal a penny from you? Can all of us each steal one penny from you? Somehow I think you would object. Why? It's a tiny fraction of what you're worth. It's nothing. Get over it.

As for that "100MB" figure, where did you get that from? From somebody else's list of the apps he doesn't like.

Maybe I don't want ANY of Apple's apps because I prefer to replace them all with third-party apps. Do you seriously think it's only 100M for the entire set of apps Apple preloads?

Ultimately it doesn't really matter as it's not something that iOS offers or has been offering.

How much free space do you have on your iDevice right now?

If you wish to remove apples default apps go to settings general restrictions and make a passcode and disable the app/apps you wish to remove

It's doesn't remove the app. It just disables it. I'm talking about physically removing the app from the device.

Not sure you could actually "physically" remove the app from the device per se. That said, what are you trying to accomplish with that in particular?

I want Apple to give us the ability to delete their stock software just like I can delete any app store software and re-download them when I need them.

Alright, so what do you see that providing over just being able to hide an app using restrictions let's say?

Removing the app. Removing any trace of it from the device. I, like others, do not want to have to disable it, hide it, restrict it. We want it removed. Gone. Deleted. In the trash can and emptied.

Some folks don't care about it, others do. Give me the choice of being able to remove it, re-download it if needed etc.

So it's just the personal knowledge that it's deleted vs. hidden (without likely much of an actual difference between the two)?

How-to-Hide-App-Icons-iOS-9-250x416.jpg
While Tim Cook has promised Apple will "figure out a way" for iPhone and iPad users to remove certain default apps, a new limited trick allows for stock icons to be temporarily hidden on devices running iOS 9.0 to iOS 9.2 without jailbreaking.

YouTube channel videosdebarraquito shared a video of his trick over the weekend, and we have confirmed the method works as shown. Follow these step-by-step instructions and watch the video below for a demonstration.

How to Hide App Icons on iOS 9
Hold down on the app icon you want to hide until it starts to wiggle.
Drag the app icon over any other app to create a folder.
Take your finger off the icon once in the folder. Do not press the Home button.
Drag the app icon to the second page of the folder. Take your finger off the icon.
Drag the app icon to the third page of the folder and keep your finger on it.
Drag the app icon to the edge of the folder and press the Home button simultaneously. As long as the device remains powered on, including when the display is locked, the app icons removed with this trick will remain hidden.

Keep in mind that the hidden app icons will reappear when the iPhone and iPad is restarted, so this trick only serves as a temporarily solution.

As a boilerplate disclaimer, this is an unofficial trick and we cannot guarantee it will not cause any unforeseen problems on your iPhone or iPad.

(Thanks, Jose!)
