If it were an aftermarket purchase, would anybody think it weird if anybody wanted to buy the Samsung instead of Toshiba SSD to install?

Well that's just it, ain't it? This is NOT an aftermarket purchase. Apple is not in the business of selling Samsung SSDs or LG screens. They don't advertise that way nor they claim to offer any specific component brands.

God only knows what other components are in there (NIC, Bluetooth, USB controller) that if someone figured out the brand we'd start another whole family of threads "Broadcom vs Realtek NIC?". "The Broadcom gives me 190 megabits, Realtek 192". "How can I tell I have Realtek?" "Can I return my MBA because it's got a Broadcom NIC?"

Please, stop the madness!

I've got an i7 and an LG screen. According to this forum my MBA should have melted through the earth's crust and I should be blind from trying to look a this screen.

Oddly, neither have happened. :)

That's true, but IMHO major components are:

CPU
RAM
motherboard
PSU
heatsink/fan
SSD/HD
LCD
case

I'm not saying I would have returned it, because I was ready to accept whatever I got, but the OP made a thread asking for help on trying to get the Toshiba SSD presumably because he did not want to go the route of constantly returning MBAs until he got the right one.

I'm just glad I got a Samsung SSD and screen before I read these threads about it - knowing myself I would be obsessing about it!
