The installation file is playing with me. It keeps saying I don't have sufficient space on my drive when I clearly do.

Two things I find odd are 1. I evidently have 88.45 gigs of free space available on my main storage instead of 27.84, and 2. Big Sur shouldn't even need 27.84 gigs of space, which is what's being displayed as available. I have tried rebooting and redownloading the installation file, both to no avail. I suspect even if I give up on this public beta, this issue will come back and haunt me when the official release is out. What should I do now aside from moving/deleting even more files?

I had the similar issue. I did a search by files over 1GB and started deleting them until I met the storage requirement.

I was really looking forward to the Big Sur public beta. But try as I might, it just would not install on my 2018 Mac mini. I would get an error message, "An error occurred installing macOS" at about 2 minutes into the installation process. I download the installer three times thinking it might be corrupt. I tried everything I could think of including resetting NVRAM, resetting SMC, reinstalling Catalina 10.15.6, running hardware diagnostics, rebooting in safe mode, etc. to no avail. It would not even install on my external drive. This is so strange. I've sent a feedback to Apple.

Having the same issue here. Nothing I do seems to make a difference...
