More snarky snide comments from those who think a lot of people don’t know how to measure.
I used a brand new measuring tape. I measured accurately 4 times and got the same results each time with the new tape. Apple band sizer online said I was a 6 or a 5 for a snug fit. Ordered size 5 and went to the Apple store to pick up. While there, I tried on the size 5. It was a little too big. I tried on the 4 and it was a good snug fit.
So much for your simple solution.
Apple has already issued a recall hence the purpose of this guide for re-measuring
Not singling you out here but, I have seen several replies from people not reading very much of the article because it is too long. These same members will read books and post on the forum for hours on end but read a longer post and the same people complain. I don’t get it.
The article is thorough and Juli did her best to cover everything a new person to the Apple Watch and Apple bands might not know about or consider with this new style loop.
I'm not a customer for this product because Apple, in its infinite wisdom, made the Apple Watch incompatible with my generation of iPhone. No sale. My comment had to do with the fact that MR had to write such a long article to address this loop thing, which should have been thought through better by Apple. Something so complicated shouldn't even be considered for release.
I agree with you that Apple made the new band process more convoluted than need be. And as a result, more inaccurate (for many) than it should have been. I think Apple will change their approach to the Solo band very quickly. They have too many skews with this band and all the returns back and forth will deduct from their high profit margin.

For what it's worth, here's my experience so far.
Decided to finally buy a Watch and really like the simplicity of the solo loop.
Measured my wrist at home with printed tool as an 8.
Went to local Apple Store to ask some questions and for a fitting.
Tried both 44 and 40 Watches with 7 and 8 solo loops.
Decided to buy a 44 with an 8 but out of stock.
Was advised to come back in a few days.
Went back and asked to try again before buying - a 44 with a 7 and an 8.
Decided the 8 was too loose so asked to buy 44 and 7 but once again out of stock.
My take:
- I was measuring too loosely with the printed tool.
- For me the solo loop feels super comfortable. I never had great experiences with traditional watch buckles so I'm prepared to give it a try. Will see how much it loosens with use once I can get one!
One suspicion after the fittings. Could the result be different for the different watch sizes, in other words might tailored printed tools be required?!
One other thing. Are other physical retail outlets going to sell these loops? Haven't seen any yet...

If you need to go thru this much to buy a band for your smart watch, then Apple clearly isn't as user-friendly and customer-focused as it once was. Then all the iOS 14 and Catalina (still??) bugs, 17,000 imminent new underwhelming iPhone SKUs, and a little ARM MacBook that won't be able to run anything. Lol what a mess this company's product line has become. And the iPad.. Sure it's a good tablet, but what the hell do I do with it? Mine just usually collects dust because I use my iPhone 11 Pro on the go and my MacBook Pro 16" when I need a REAL computer.
My partner is on the heavy side and we tried the size 12 on him and it cut off his circulation.
Apple wants to sell watches for people who want to exercise but not everyone starts from the same place. Most of America is overweight and probably wont fit the 12 size from Apple.

Sorry, it’s not them. It’s us. People are too stupid to just be told, “Measure the snug circumference of your wrist.” Imagine how many pages of documentation it would take to precisely instruct someone to get out of bed and brush their teeth.
Know how else it’s us? Some lawyer would file some lawsuit claiming a client’s pain & suffering due to an ill-fitting watch band, and then follows the class action. Think Apple hasn’t seen that movie before?
I bought an iWatch with a loop band. I was 7 or just into 8 (on the line). I got the 7. PERFECT FIT and feels MUCH better than a harder band.
I measured about a 9.5 with the cutout but went with a 9 originally because if I pulled it as tight as I could go it leaned more 9 than 10. My apple store got some in stock today and after everyone saying go smaller I ordered an 8 for pickup. The 8 fit perfectly, so I would def say fit the cutout as tight as possible and then still go down a size.
The braided solo loop is amazing, probably not worth $100 and I knew that going in but my favorite band I’ve had yet.

I really like the look of the braided loop and ordered one. The 2 month wait begins. I don’t see it holding up long term like the Solo loop in day to day use.
Devices are getting smarter while people are getting dumber!
If by “dumb” you mean by trusting Apple to design/manufacture/ship the correct sized band when following their instructions perfectly, well, okay then.
99% of customers are intelligent enough to buy matching rings, bracelets, collars and necklaces on the Internet. These people equipped for life have no problem here either.
Good that there is the Apple store. For people like you, it will definitely be of ultimate help.
