Once this X is available and I want to buy, which I understand is going to be $1000.00, can I do this?
I want to trade in my 6Plus for $175 the site says its worth. and I also have 2 separate visa gift cards with $200 each on them. Can I use all 3 of these methods and do the remaining balance on the payment plan over the course of 1-2 years??
And just to clarify... I am able to afford this phone, I just have a few hundred dollars sitting on Visa gift cards that I want to use towards the new phone

Short answer: no

Long answer: If you buy it on a payment plan, either through your carrier or through Apple's iPhone Upgrade Program, you just pay monthly charges. Some, not all carriers may allow a down payment but you'd need to ask them. You can also buy outright, on no payment plan, which means you have to pay the entire cost right there. Since you'd be paying with a credit card, you could take 2 years to pay off the charges, but the interest would eat you up and you'd end up spending way more than $1,000 on that phone in the end.

From the context of your post, are you younger/under age? Almost sounds like you don't have the money now and your parents won't buy it for you. If this is the case, you'll be waiting until you can afford it or can change their mind. Perhaps waiting until early 2018 when supply catches up to demand a little more you can scoop one up for a little bit cheaper on Craigslist, or have your money saved up by then.

I don't live in the US (assuming that's where you're from) but I highly doubt you would be able to do this. If anything, you could use the gift cards and trade in your 6+, but you'll have to pay the remaining balance upfront.

Maybe save up some money to do it that way? Although you'll probably have quite a long wait before you get the X.

Only buy what you can AFFORD. It's a good life-lesson :)

Your situation is complicated. I would try to minimize your payment methods if possible. It would be more more efficient for the check out process.

Lot of belittling going on in here, people making a bunch of assumptions.
It was a valid question, he basically has $575 and was wondering can they use it towards the payment plan.
Nothing there suggests they cant afford the phone or even that they're "young", nothing wrong with wanting to make use of $400 worth of gift cards and a tradein rather than just having them sat there not being used,

Though honestly I'd just buy outright if I was you.

You already have half of it covered, you have $575 between the gift cards and tradein.

Just throw in a further $500 and purchase.

"Just throw in $500"

Like idk but maybe he/she doesn't have $500 to just chuck around? Hence the need for the payment plan?

Time, because it rules EVERYTHING!
Well the usual method to pay for things is to use something called ‘money’ but what ever floats your boat I guess? Usual you have to trade something for another... it’s how it works..

:D It was too tempting with your thread title haha..

And I wouldn’t finance a phone, if you need to finance a mobile phone you really shouldn’t buy it! Get it in contract.

Saw something the other day about a guy who obviously couldn't afford to get the phone talking about selling a half dozen different possessions including a PC and some jewelry in order to get it...

... not sure why but this came to mind.

I am disregarding the rest of your post.....Your phone is likely worth more than $175 just FYI

Just FYI re: Kermit meme - some people can afford a car, but have no need for it. (Like a lot of us Londoners!)

Your undervalueing your iPhone 6S, I’d say it’s worth, if it’s in good condition, $250 to $300, then just save up the outstanding balance

You can put down a $400 down payment which, along with the $175, should bring your monthly cost down considerably. You'd have to talk to a Verizon rep and probably it over the phone or in person to see if they'll take the gift cards. That's not gonna happen in an online transaction.

My guess as to whether or not they'll take the gift cards? Probably not.

OP's 6 Plus for $175? I dunno. It's 3 years old.

I got offered $275 for my 6s Plus from Verizon... and I accepted it. I did so because $275 for a 2 year old phone is a fair price. Could I have gotten a little more for it? Probably. But the hassle of selling it and then meeting up with someone to possible make an extra $50 I just didn't feel like bothering with.

I've always sold year old phones really quickly. This was the first time I waited 2 years to upgrade... and I had no problems accepting $275.

With tax you’re gonna pay more than $1000. Like some others have said, you should save up until you can afford the phone. Also keep in mind the longer you wait to trade in your 6+ the less money it’ll be worth if you go through the “site”.
