I did an OTA upgrade on my iPhone 5 right before all these announcements about the jailbreak being released came out. If I now do a restore via iTunes will I be able to jailbreak?
Thanks,

As stated 11ty thousand times, yes
Yes. Just Restore via iTunes.
That is how I roll w/ all my jb, never had battery issues.
Step X would be to Restore as NEW & no backup IF I were in a jb fw at the moment of a new jb.

lol what bogus crap? In the blogspot is the links to the right, choose the one for your OS.

Usually, but better to have them ready on your computer if something happens like a new FW before Cydia could get to your device to request the blobs from apple.
OTA=over the air update. You should restore using iTunes and not OTA for this jb since OTA updated iOS devices are untested to work properly w/ the new jb and the blobs itself are different if OTA vs normal restore.
Might be a dumb question, but oh hell I'm going to ask anyway.
I've never downloaded firmware until the day I was actually upgrading.
So I can actually download 6.1 firmware from iclarified and just keep it on my desktop until the jailbreak releases and I'm ready to update. Then I can just do the whole shift+click deal and select the firmware from there?
I would rather already have it downloaded so I don't have to worry about downloading that huge file when I'm ready to upgrade and jailbreak my phone.

I have adblocker so I forgot about those ads, but yes it's the links at the right.Well zoom downloader was one of them and there was one other "download manager" but I don't remember the name. There was about four different green download buttons on the page. I guess I clicked all of the paid ads and not the actual download link. I will try again tomorrow. Thanks for the responses. I can't believe the download on cnet was junk.

I want to preserve the unlock on my sister's 3GS, which I've just downgraded to 4.1 to get the 05.13.04 baseband which I've unlocked via ultrasn0w. If I'm upgrading to iOS 6.1 should I upgrade via redsn0w now, preserving baseband and apply the untethered jailbreak over the top of that tomorrow?
Downgrading to 4.1 does nothing with the BB. You can downgrade the BB only with redsn0w; first upgrade 06.15.00 than downgrade back to 05.13.04.
If you already had the 05.13.04 you can indeed preserve the BB by using redsn0w restore function; Extras/even more/restore
You'll need the 3GS 6.1 IPSW and blobs for 6.1 during the process redsn0w will ask to preserve the BB.
Ultrasn0w is not updated for 6.1 you'll need ultrasn0w fixer for 6.1 to get it working
Not sure if this has been mentioned but we should all d/l the appropriate IPSW well in advance of the JB dropping. I'm sure the servers will be hammered beyond belief once it drops.
*EDIT: I see that it has been mentioned; too lazy to read through the entire thread.
I always download a copy of the firmware to my computer so I will always have easy access to the firmware in case I ever want to perform a DFU restore. The firmwares are always a huge file, usually just under 1gb. Because of the large size, the file obviously takes some time to download. I say all this because I have been trying to download the 6.1 ipsw for 3 days now and I can never get the file to completely download. I have tried early in the mornings, mid day, and late at night. I have a really fast, strong cable broadband internet connection. It never drops out and I can download huge files in reasonable time. I know the Apple servers must be slammed with firmware requests but this is absurd. I have never experienced this before in the past when downloading firmwares. Sometimes the download might take longer than other times but never have I had such problems. Is anyone else having this issue? If so, how did you resolve it? Just keep trying the download until it finally succeeds?
Either way can't wait to jailbreak iOS6.1!
