I would love a low power mode that doesn't shut off my phone but rather, with user defined period of inactivity, just lowers screen brightness and reduces background processes, then 'wakes up' out of low power mode when I use it again.

This should definitely be an option in the actual os without all this farting about
Low power mode disables a lot of things people want and seek support for when they're not working:
automatic email checking
uploading Photos to iCloud library
5G cell data
all app background updates
more...

Excellent tips! Thank you!!

Question: Is there a way to set Automation feature for the iPhone not to charge pass 80% of the battery life? 🔋🔌
Yes there is but it's quite a hack.

I just created an automation that, when the phone hits 80% it'll just switch off the charger. (I used a smart iHome power socket that I used to call "big lamp" in HomeKit to do this.). Of course that only works for your specific home charger.

The topic was already discussed a month ago.
For those who want their iCloud photos automatically synced daily, I recommend using this option instead:
Trigger: Charger Is Disconnected > Turn Low Power Mode On
and
Trigger: Charger Is Connected > Turn Low Power Mode Off
Now the iPhone operates in normal mode during charging.

Maybe I’m weird but I use my iPhone 13 (admittedly a pro max) pretty heavily through most days and I don’t need to charge it until the end of the day. Yesterday I went out at half eight in the morning, did a bus commute, a day of work, grocery shop, bus journey back, straight out the door again to get a bus to the pub and wasn’t properly home home until midnight, but came through the door with 2% battery. Drop it on a MagSafe, and charge it up whilst I sleep. Keeping my phone on low power mode all the time seems overcautious, like putting on a helmet, mouth guard and condom before walking out the door every day.

This will break background refresh in your weather app as well as may affect other widgets. The email checks are what kill it for me.
That’s why, this is not for everyone. But there are some folks out there who really get benefits from this.

I use that same trick to prevent Airplane mode from being enabled.

Useful to prevent thief’s putting your iPhone in airplane mode.

Shouldn’t this need to run its pair?
Trigger: Charger Is Connected > Turn Low Power Mode Off

Sounds logical, but nope.
On charger connect Low Power Mode gets disabled automatically by the OS.

Edit: Correct, it only gets disabled automatically when reaching 80% again.

If low power mode affects app refresh.
Does that mean it would impact GPS & maps when they are running (active app)?

Nobody needs to do this. Just use and charge your phone normally folks. Don't live like this.

Thanks for telling me what I do and don’t need in my life.

I use low power mode 100% of the time to disable HDR content in Instagram, Twitter, Reddit, YouTube etc. Because currently, HDR content ignores user brightness and jacks it up to 100% blinding me when I use my phone in bed at night.

Genuine question: given that low power mode restricts a lot of the background functions, what good does this do a majority of users that are frequently pulling out their phone to refresh social media?

How much extra time are you really saving?

Note: I'm an outlier, since I never use Low Power Mode, and my 13 mini goes from 100 to 80 typically throughout a work day before I dock it for the night.
i use it ften, but i have a unique use case. I work offshore and have to buy data packages.ackground operationschew through data. Swithcing on LPM save me quite a bit

Thanks for this tip. I like it. I use low-power mode in private time to disable mail push. Problem was that when in low-power mode and I charge the phone low-power mode gets disabled when charging reaches 80%.

Also thanks for the link to macstories shortcuts. Now I unlock my iMac with my phone :)

So you buy very expensive smartphone and turn it into low end phone because it has bad battery life?

On a related note, I have an automation configured to turn on Low Power Mode when I take my phone off it's charger.

Correspondingly, another automation exists to turn off Low Power Mode when I put my phone on the charger.

This allows photos to sync with iCloud and other background tasks to be completed overnight.

I like this setup; YMMV.

I tried this, and LPM is not disabled automatically when connect to charger.
Sorry for the confusion. You're right. Only when it reaches 80% will LPM get deactivated automatically.
I was using both automations for so long, I forgot the 80% default rule - shame on me.
I corrected my post accordingly.
