Each smart phone has advantages and disadvantages and different people have differing needs and wants. iPhone is my pick as the best, all around, handheld multimedia communication device. Nevertheless, my conclusion is based on my own unique needs and experience, and my willingness to ignore my observation that iPhone is, in the end, marginal in performance as a cell phone.

Agreed 100%. Though I do blame AT&T in part for this.

You forgot Blackberry. IMO its has an excellent OS for plain functionality and for those who do not obsess over apps and media.

I used to try fairly hard to convince friends and family to go iOS instead of Android. Not to boost my fanboy credentials but just to try to help people in my life get a phone they will truly be happy with in the long run. But I've mostly given up. I figure that anyone who is open to the iPhone would either have one by now or know enough to know they want one. Those who are convinced they want something else are not going to be swayed. They've either latched on hard to the popular "soundbites" (ie. "Android is open and Apple is closed, and I don't like closed") or they can't stand to be stuck on AT&T (which is actually very understandable to me).

If someone asks me, I boil it down to these simple points:
  • Start with carrier choice. If AT&T reception is poor in your area, then you may not want an iPhone. Otherwise take a close look at it.
  • iOS is very well established and has a bigger selection of HIGHER QUALITY apps than any of the other phones. Apple's tight control does have its advantages.
  • Apple has some of the best customer service in the industry. Visit an Apple Store and see what I mean. Their software update policy is also very good.
  • The iPhone is super easy to use. Every single aspect of the UI has been crafted with ease of use in mind. My 2 year old is already well on her way to figuring it out.
  • Android is not nearly as "open" as they claim. They are carrier-whores.
  • Don't worry about up front cost. You'll be investing a lot of money over the two year agreement in voice/data so make sure it's a device you'll love.
  • Enjoy whatever you decide to get! The comparisons are all relative and this is a great time in the smartphone industry. They are all pretty terrific right now, compared to the old Windows Mobile phones we were stuck using a few years ago.

But which one really is the best?... Is there a way to prove it?... Are there any results to prove which one is the best?

You can't prove your's or someone's experience. But you can argue about it all day & night. :D
