How long before Apple starts selling 'unlocked' iPhone6S / 6S Plus?..... before Christmas?

I would say sooner. Technically, they started to sell them on 9/12, as the phone given through the upgrade program already is an unlocked 6s/6s+.

I am seeing different prices at apple.com for the monthly payments than this article shows:

iPhone 6s
  • 16gb - $32.45/mo
  • 64gb - $37.45/mo
  • 128gb - $42.45/mo
iPhone 6s Plus
  • 16gb - $37.45/mo
  • 64gb - $42.45/mo
  • 128gb - $47.45/mo
Anyone else??

Are those that are excited about the 6S just people on the "S" upgrade cycle? My 6 is only about 8 months old and still working great, I am not under contract but don't see any reason to blow an upgrade on the 6S. I'll save t for the 7.

Subsidized or installment upgrade?

I always justify buying every new iPhone since I get Subsidized iphone 20 to24 months. So I got iphone 6 plus 64gb for $399 plus taxes and upgrade fees. So around $460 out of pocket.

Sold it for $600 2 weeks ago on Craig's list.

Brought full price $850 iphone 6s plus plus taxes. So $908.

And Wil get Subsidized upgrade next year and repeat same cycle.

When you bought your iPhone 6 Plus subsidized, you probably paid a subsidized monthly payment which includes about an extra $20/mo for the carrier to recoup their costs. So $240 + $460 = $700, give or take a few bucks. That's the hidden reality.

Has anyone else noticed how Apple's monthly iPhone Upgrade Program effectively has you paying $129 of AppleCare+ every year, WTH?!

Where are you getting 'every year' from?

BL.
No one has "noticed" it because it's not true. AppleCare is built into Apple's Installment Plan of 24 months, so when you trade it in after 12 months and get a new one, the remaining balance (that includes AppleCare) is completed by Apple/Bank and you begin again. If you choose to not trade it in and keep it for 24 months, you continue paying the remaining AppleCare and iPhone balance until it's yours to keep. You really end up paying ~ $65 for AppleCare per year if you trade the iPhone in every year.

Hey, I'm just trying to understand the pricing here in earnest, and if my math is off on this I'm happy for someone to kindly explain to me how so.

But as far I can still see based on Apple's "upgrade program" pricing you're paying $129 for AppleCare+ EVERY YEAR if you want a new phone EVERY YEAR. Like so:

iPhone 6s (16GB) = $32.41 per month (via Upgrade Program)

$32.41 x 24 (months) = $777.84

$777.84 - $129 for AppleCare+

= $648.84
(approx. retail for iPhone 6S, without AC+)

So, how are you NOT paying for AppleCare+ every year, if you want to upgrade your phone model every year? Especially when, as far as I understand it, AC+ coverage is supposed to last for 24 months, regardless if you get a new phone within 2 years. Doesn't that seem like you're paying for AC+ twice within two years?

What you are checking there is the prices for your eligibility in your carrier's comparable plan (in your case, looks like ATT Next 12). Compare those to the upgrade price that you see here:

http://www.apple.com/shop/iphone/iphone-upgrade-program

That should show the difference you'd pay per month, not including AppleCare+. For Next, that is a separate purchase, due in full upfront.

I see now. What you are looking at appears to be the full price of AppleCare+ upfront. In the upgrade program, don't worry about that, as that should roll over into the new phone, or you could cancel it on the phone you are trading in, and sign up for it on the new phone with the upgrade program, meaning you would be paying for only 12 months of AppleCare+ for each phone you would have, not for the entire 24 months. So instead of looking at it at a Per duration basis, look at it from a per month basis. That's what you'd be paying for. So in effect, you'd be paying a little under $65/month for AppleCare+ each year.

Another way to look at it, is that if you kept it on the per-duration basis, you'd be paying $129 for 24 months, which would cover both the 6s/6s+ for the first year, AND whatever phone you decide to upgrade to the following year. Then on the S cycle 2 years later, your AppleCare+ would be up for renewal.

I tried this but every store in my state is showing no availability for any model/color/capacity. Is this true for everyone else? It is also frustrating that you cannot select another day in the future when they will have capacity.

RIGHT!! You are not given those options the article is talked by about right now.

I upgrade every year. Each year there are significant improvements. Many don't understand or appreciate them. I do, so I upgrade every year. And I'm not under any contract. I pay full fare yearly. As long as one can afford it, I don't understand why everyone doesn't do it.

This is my first time reserving to buy at an Apple store. I got a reservation time of 9-9:30. Given how crazy it is, would it behoove me to show up early? If so, how much earlier? Or can I just show up at 9 and check in?

Here's a good reason, and why the Upgrade Program was the way to go for me.

Some people made some mistakes early on in their life, or were hurt bad by the economic downturn over the past 8 - 9 years. The latter happened for me, with the housing bubble going bust, so I'm trying to rebuild my credit. Having the right card in hand, and showing that I am able to make those payments is an excellent way to not only rebuild your credit, but get your credit score to skyrocket. If your score is in the low-mid 500s, you could easily have it reach the 650-675 range in the next 6 - 9 months. While I have the money and could afford to pay it off completely, that does nothing for my credit, as it shows that I have no activity on my report. No activity = no improvement = more chance of being denied something on credit.

There's pros and cons to paying full price for it, and for me, the cons outweigh the pros to where I can use that con to my advantage.

Yeah, thats it though, while I can afford it, I'm too cheap, see my comment on the next quoted reply as to exactly how cheap I am.

I did a contract on my iPhone 6 but the actual upgrade went on our iPad line so my line has no contract and then Verizon is discounting my line $25/month because it is not under contract, lol. iPad line stayed the same $10 per month. At some point they will figure this out and stop letting people do this. Here is what I typically do, add insurance about 3 months prior to new phone coming out, next year, iPhone 7. Since iPhone 6S will be the "cheap" phone then they most likely will not have any 6's with 64gb in stock meaning that when I do an insurance claim on my 6, I will most likely get a 6S 64gb. Sell said 6S by one of many possible options, then order an iPhone 7 at contract (or subsidy, whichever is the best deal, usually contract) price. Pocket the cash, cancel insurance 3 months later. I've been doing this since the first iPhone in 2007. Back then they did not discount the phone at all, that is the only iPhone I've actually paid for (100% net) out of pocket. So 8 years later I've still only paid for 1 iPhone. When I got my 6 it turned out that the ESN on my 4 was still good even though it was reported at lost, Verizon gave me $200 for it, lmao, so I actually made money on my iPhone 6. I did a claim on my 32gb 5, got a 32gb 5S, sold the 5S, ordered the 6 and sent in my 4 for a rebate. Same when I went from 4 to 5 but no rebate on my 3gS, it was actually damaged anyway.

I am cheap, very cheap.

Because you're not making 24 payments if you upgrade every year, you're making 12.

32.41 x 12 = 388.92

Therefore you only pay for half of the apple care

I will never wait in line for an apple product. And I'm one of the biggest apple heads there is. Been buying Apple before it was "cool". Back before there were any Apple stores, and i-anything. Back when you had to go to stores like Comp USA to buy anything apple...and they kept the macs in the back of the store under the leaky ceiling. When the staff used to smirk condescendedly if you asked where the "Apple" section was and try to persuade you to buy a PC instead. No thanks I'd say. Lol. Ah, those were the days.

Seriously tho. As big of a fan as I am, I'd never wait on one of those lines just to be the first to have the new iPhone. That's something you do if you're a teenager or an Asian tourist who plans to buy a bunch and bring them back home to resell. Lol. I'd rather wait or just order from my computer after the first hands on reviews came out.

Agreed, I've never waited nor will I wait. I'd rather order online or wait until the hype dies down.

Did anyone else just get an email and not a text? I'm a little worried there was a system glitch or some BS that's going to screw it up on the 25th.
I didn't. Just an email. I did this last year and also just got an email. It was no problem. Sounds like the article was wrong about this. To bad there isn't a way to double check our reservation.

With the upgrade program, after 12 months you can restart your agreement on a new iPhone. This means you have only paid half the original phone and half the AppleCare. Not AppleCare twice.
