Is it possible to receive notification alerts or badges for the App Store when any of your apps have an update (like we can on iPhone or iPad)?

I've looked in the notifications settings and App Store is not on there.

Thanks mate. But that's the thing, app store is not in there. I can see it on my iPhone but not on my MBP.

On all my macs, App Store is not in the notifications list on ventura. I dont get update notifications either
Thanks siliconpsychosis. It's really odd that it's not available in notifications. It'll be good to know how many on her have it in notifications and how many don't.

Very odd!

1) The App Store is in my Settings > Notifications and is set for Alerts and all the little switches turned on.
2) I don't actually get notifications for App Store!! There were 3 app updates overnight, but nothing in Notification Centre - but there was a 3 on the Dock icon.

Conclusion: I really don't understand Notifications.

Like I said, odd! 😂

Could you possibly screen shot your settings for App Store please?

i wonder if you have to have app store open and keep it open so when an update happens it pops up in the notifications list. For example, on whatsapp desktop, when you install, it does not get added to the notifications list UNTIL your first message post-install comes through and the app is open

Thanks. I'll give that a try.
I'll take a screen shot next time I'm on my Mac. But right now it looks nothing like yours.

The is the App Store settings screen

And this is the Notifications screen. No App Store showing at all.

Mine is:
Capto_2023-05-26_08-17-03_.png

And my Notifications settings for App Store as in my previous post. That looks like mine are all set to notify. But I don't remember seeing any actual notifications.

So, though my App Store seems to be enabled for notification, I am not better off that you are!!

Thanks rpmurray. I'll get that installed. Would've preferred the App store, but this will do too 🙂

A bit of a bump as I think I might have sussed out what's gone wrong!

Whilst I was setting up wifey's account earlier, when I click on Music I was asked if I wanted to receive notifications. I clicked Yes, and then check in notification setting and she has the App Store in there.

I clearly must've clicked NO 🤦‍♂️

Any chance of remedying this?

"Of course it makes sense to have to check Music to get badges and notifications with the App Store"
Sarcastic comment by desperation🙄
I was looking to solve the enigma too but I never got the question from Music
I launched the Music app and gave the ok for notifications but nothing changed for the App Store
BTW in Music settings-General there is a setting to check for Notification

P.s. Looking around I found even a page https://support.apple.com/en-ca/guide/app-store/fir9b01adda3/mac
I guess it's a bug of badges not showing up

I wonder if having the "install application updates from the app store" option in software update has an effect on this. If its checked, maybe it just blindly does it without any user interation or notification.
