I was close to tears when my external drive died, after having previously 'moved' all my music onto there - off my old laptop because it ran out of memory.

But please, go and buy a hard drive for Time Machine backups. All hard drives _will_ die eventually; it is not a matter of "if" but of "when". Time Machine backup means there won't be any tears.

You should also look at the instructions how to replace the hard drive in your Mac. It is cheap, it is quite easy, and it can be a massive speed increase for your Mac.

I am continually amazed at how few people back up their data. In this case... it is only songs, which can easily be re-purchased... it is only a matter of money. For so many other people, they lose irreplaceable data at any price.

What are people thinking?
