Just drag the System Preferences icon out of the dock and you'll never see any badge there ever. Need to change preferences? Go to Applications and run from there

Does that work if you have an Applications shortcut folder in the Dock? Or does the folder show the red badge too?

I guess I am lying, along with the other three people on that thread that confirm it's working.
To be clear, I'm not advising anyone to replace their SoftwareUpdate.framework. I was just pointing out an alternative solution.
Of course, there are simpler ones. Like creating an alias for System Preferences and dragging that into the Dock ;)
