The stainless steel finish on the side of the iPhone X is very easily scratched. Mine already has many fine scratches. Just wanted to see how you guys buffer/treat scratches. Any recommended solutions that I can mix myself, or is there a cheap one I can buy online?

One tablespoon toothpaste, one tablespoon pavestone and a Brillo pad. You want to keep buffing it until the shine is completely gone. Safe on the screen, too.

I actually just bought this at the store today and it worked perfectly. I dropped my phone a couple days ago so I was looking for something like this.

Just dab a tiny bit onto a microfiber cloth, and rub the steel until the rag turns black. You don’t have to press down hard.

I also put some blue tape along the screen edges just in case, to make sure I was only touching the stainless steel.

Good as new! Gonna do my watch tomorrow.

My Space Gray has no scratches :)
Looks like the PVC coating does make a difference.

Probably in a case. Run the phone without a case for a few days. Back of your phone will have hairline scratches no doubt.

Agreed. My roommates caseless SG has scratches along the band. My silver does as well, of course. We both have a small amount of micro scratches that your nail won’t catch on and can only be seen at an angle under very bright light.

It’s a phone, not a one-off art piece.

1) put it in a case
2) relax
This is all you need. No chance of getting paste in the microphone/speaker holes etc.

Already used it once and the band was polished in about 10 seconds.

I see one on amazon for a bit over $5. It comes with two cloths only. Can you use one cloth multiple times or is it a one time use?

It comes with two cloths in the package. You can use one cloth multiple times and it does not need to be disposed of after the first use. Rub gently along the stainless bands.

So is it true that the space gray can't be polished in the same way as the silver?

Correct. Because the stainless space gray bands have a PVD or physical vapor deposition coating. Using a cloth or any other type of chemical could remove that coating or cause unknown issues.

Just my opinion, but I have used the mothers polish in the past. It does work, but if you're going to use it on the Apple Watch, be extremely cautious around the ports, as if you get any polish inside there, you will never be able to get it out. I would still recommend a Cape Cod cloth for both the stainless bands on the iPhone X and Apple Watch, as it's much easier without the use of paste.
