Do you think this stuff would work on a gold xs? Worried it may take the gold colour off.

No. You could potentially ruin the PVD coating on the gold stainless, which the Cape Cod cloth is intended for raw stainless, similar to what the silver iPhone X has.

Will mothers polish work for iphone xs sg? Just dropped my phone before i got a case for it.

BIG EDIT

I just noticed you wrote SG. No, no polish is going to do anything at all for the PVD-coated stainless steel bands. You will probably wind up changing the way the area you polish looks compared to the rest of the band. You may even wind up removing some of the SG PVD coating. Either way, you're going to make the phone look a lot worse. You can't polish the PVC coating. The best you can do for SG is try to color it with a Sharpie.

What I wrote earlier is only true for the polished stainless steel finish:

No polish is going to remove anything more than light superficial scratches. If you can feel it with a fingernail when you slide your fingernail over the scratch, it's just going to make things bright(er). And obviously no polish is going to remove dents (you said you dropped it).

If you use any polish, be very careful not to get the polish into the speaker grills, Lightning port or openings around the three buttons.

Big thanks, i guess i just need to hide it with a case, and totally forget about it,

not unless you want to make the whole band silver haha.
Dont use it on a painted/coated stainless band...

Thanks, man,

The only coating Apple offers which is almost impervious to scratches, is the DLC on the Apple Watches. The PVD coating is adequate against minor scratches/scuffs, but doesn’t hold the durability the DLC does. I’d like to see them offer DLC on the iPhone bands, but I get that it’s also a far _more_ expensive process. Especially considering the 316 L stainless bands is the same stainless that Apple uses on the Apple Watch.

How does Cape Cod polishing actually working? Are you actually "sanding" away the microscopic scratches so if you do it one million times, you will actually wear down the steel eventually?

Correct!

I used to polish my Apple Watch series 0 SS once every week for two years. When I upgraded to series 2, they looked exactly similar. So you can polish it as much as you want, you’re basically removing a few layers of atoms...

You couldn’t really wear down the 316l stainless with simple polishing. For that to happen, you would have to apply a lot of pressure and regularly polish the watch to do any real significant damage to the stainless.

But I wouldn’t really worry about polishing the stainless/doing damage, what I would highly consider, you don’t want the cloth to come in contact with the display, as that will scratch it and/or remove the Oleophobic coating.
