I installed a recommended firmware patch that said it corrected a "second monitir black issue" and it made my perfectly fine thunderbolt monitor black!

Now, neither my office iMac that once hosted this monitor happily, nor my McBook pro even sees the thunderbolt when it's plugged in.

I called Apple and they hung up on me.

And this un-plug re-plug is a bit insulting, right?

Id rather not complain here and wonder if anybody ever went to the "Genius Bar" and had them solve the issue?

They sure did. While my issues mostly are quite a bit tougher to solve than let's say the common Apple user, they always were solved with a smile. Even daft out-of-warranty issues were handled better than expected.

Now I do not, in any way, pretend that you weren't nice to them - at all - so don't be offended, but being genuinely nice to these guys often makes them more prone to go the extra mile.

On the other hand hanging up on you mustn't happen, I hope this was just a mishap on their phone system.

The only thing that is sad is how many people are bashing an article designed to help users. How very pathetic. Does it make people feel "good" about themselves to always want to bash and hate?

Um I don't think they are bashing the article. At least that's not how I took it. I think he was bashing the Display because it requires 18 steps to fix it...

I hate this monitor so much. Whoever over at Appple decided to make a Monitor without a power button should get a swift kick in the ass. I just threw away $1K buying it this temperamental thing

I have three of them. They work great to this day. They work on older Thunderbolt computers and new MacBook Pro as well. I can daisy chain easily too. I don’t know why you spent $1000 on it though. For power, well it would be nice to have a power button for that I got a nice switch where my plugs are.

Apple's Thunderbolt Display, for myriad reasons, may not display an image from your Mac, recognize USB peripherals, connect to Ethernet, or power on whatsoever.

In many cases, the display is not broken. Before contacting Apple, follow these troubleshooting steps to see if you can reset your Thunderbolt Display.

The easiest way to reset (for me at least) was to turn OFF Mac (Not restart), Mac sure display is connected. Turn Mac on, immediately hit and hold "Control" + "Option" + "R" key + "P" key. Hold until Mac and Thunderbolt display are on.
