Thanks for the tip Sujai, it's nice to get rid of the value at least.

Of course the calculator widget still won't correctly save the last entered/calculated value, but at least it can now reset constantly back to 0 instead of some specific number! Hopefully they fix this, but like so many bugs in High Sierra it's still not fixed in the latest beta and I fear it could be a long time before they get around to resolving it.

Try this, it worked for me.
Go to folder "~/Library/Containers/com.apple.ncplugin.calculator/Data/Library/Preferences" and remove the file "com.apple.ncplugin.calculator.plist"
good tip
i'm wondering, after i opened that plist file, if somebody is plist expert maybe we can retrofit this file.

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd">
<plist version="1.0">
<dict>
<key>display</key>
<string>2.166,9</string>
<key>lastOperator</key>
<string>*</string>
<key>lastRegister</key>
<string>4.66</string>
<key>registerX</key>
<string>2166.9</string>
</dict>
</plist>

2166.9 being my nemesis

You can replace the number in the file with 0, but this just means the calculator will continually reset back to 0 as soon as the today/notification panel is closed, rather than correctly saving the last displayed value like it's supposed to.

Ultimately, Apple still needs to fix the cause of the problem before it'll behave correctly.

def a nuisance (but still, '0' is better than continually showing a value from 6 months ago). hard to believe this hasn't been fixed yet.

Yes...

The radar I created for this issue many weeks ago was marked as a dupe of another radar, which remains open to this day :rolleyes:

This worked for me too, thanks! Too bad we have to resort to a workaround but I'll take it.

thank you, Sujai, that worked for me too

Same issue here for many months now already. Not sure how to report it, maybe I'll go to the Apple Store.

This works partly:

But it does not adress the issue of the widget resetting in general. Is anyone able to modify the code so it keeps what ever number is displayed last. Resetting still means that you loose the caluclation :(

Unfortunately we just have to wait until Apple fixes this bug.

My radar about it (from months ago now...) was marked as a duplicate of an existing radar. When they get around to fixing it is anyone’s guess. Unfortunately these bugs are considered low priority even though it’s essentially a “data loss” bug in the sense that what you enter is supposed to be saved when you close the panel but is instead lost.

It’s a good example of the “death by a thousand paper cuts” software quality problem that many people feel Apple has at the moment. All these small bugs add up to a really janky experience now.

I don't have that file in that folder. I only have "com.apple.security.plist" and "com.apple.security_common.plist". Any suggestions?

EDIT: nvm. was using terminal and the colors threw me for sec. lol

This appears to have worked for me as well. I rebooted my mac, just to make sure and the number has remained at 0, as it should! Thanks for this suggestion, it was VERY ANNOYING before!!!!!

This worked for me as well!!! I renamed the file instead of removing it, just in case it didn't fix it or had an adverse affect. I restarted my mac after renaming the file and the fix stuck! Thank you for the suggestion! It was REALLY ANNOYING have the same number appear for now reason.
