Just to warn folks, there is no known secure way to wipe the iPhone. Even the article and the link to the "paranoid wipe" don't have a real system, at least not one that has been tested in anyway. If I was a betting man I would bet that someone out there is buying up iPhones with the idea of looking for personal data and then reselling them. If you read up on how much you can recover you'd think twice about selling the iPhone to a stranger without a proven method to securely wipe your old data.

At the very least read this article about wiping the iPhone, which was written by the guy who wrote the scary forensic tool for the iPhone.

Already sold mine for $600 on eBay! (TODAY!)

The demand for iPhones is extremely high because the Apple store doesn't have them, so sell yours ASAP.

WTF! What model do you have and what were the particulars of your listing?

Can you post the link to your auction?

auction has 2 hours left and is at about $300. I am looking at my 8 year old nokia that is going to replace the iPhone for now and am getting withdrawals already. its going to be a long 5 days

Selling my Iphone

This is probably a stupid question but should I remove my sim card before I sell my iphone to a friend of mine? Thanks for your help.

if you dont wanna unlock do you transfer your sim to a 3g model? if so how do you get a new o2 (uk) sim to sell with it?

sim card

i could fall back on my old phone for a few days, but i don't quite understand how the sim card factors in either. if i wipe the phone using the methods suggested, is information still stored on the sim card?

why would i keep the sim card? isn't all the information stored on my computer? won't the person who buys the phone from me want the phone to have a sim card in it?

When I have sold other phones online (treo) I always take out the sim card and normally use it in my new phone. People should have a sim card with their carrier already and just pop that into the phone. Don't know if the iPhone is any different but the one I am selling I never said in the listing I would include a SIM (ends in 30 minutes, now up to $380!)

I wanna sell mine but would be gutted if it gets to WWDC and I find out it not coming out in the UK in June.

Eh... well I was JUST about to list it on ebay. BUT... I thought.. they wouldn't just abandon us 1st gen users will they? Like with the iPods? Please answer. I don't want to upgrade every os release. :(

I totally forgot that the iPhone was no longer on Apple.com! This gives me more hope!

Yeah something else is coming in with 2.0 Unsure what it is but I can tell you.. it's like a gut feeling.. or it may just be the taco bell I had last night.

that is funny...there are brand new 16gb iphones on ebay already unlocked for $600 and they aren't selling. Makes me skeptical.

but the iphone has a specific sim.

8 gig Day 1 iPhone for sale dilemma

I have a 8 gig I bought on day 1. I bricked it by trying an early unlock program.

I couldn't live without so I bought another.

Later, I was able to restore and unlock the original and everything works fine. So I have a extra iPhone-- mostly pristine (a couple of minor scratches on the case).

I am thinking of selling it, but may just give it to my 11 year-old granddaughter. Each additional iPhone on an ATT family plan costs $20/month vs $10/per month for a non-iPhone. But the iPhone $20 includes all the data, messages, etc. These services cost per use on the $10 non-iPhone.

My granddaughter has run-up several bills of $200+ for these "extra" services that are part of the iPhone unlimited data plan (the $20/month charge).

My fears:

-- it would be a good target to get ripped off
-- will she take care of it
-- she has 2 brothers 8 & 9 with vanilla phones

Thouhts? Offers?
:D

Why sell?

I know, I know...got to have it...

But really. Stop and think for a moment. Do you need another 2+ years on your contract?

The differences between the new and "old" iPhone will be? actual GPS? 3G?

I would think the software would be updated on both models, so those software features that could be implemented platformwide would be...

I don't need GPS, and my market does not have 3G (See here http://www.wireless.att.com/coverageviewer/popUp_3g.jsp).

More important to me is the idea that Apple will let thrid-party apps onto the phone--making it more of a smartphone rather than a networkphone (think thin client). I actually work in areas with no GSM covereage, and my iPhone, in those places, is a nice iPod...

So, I won't be selling my iPhone, and the upgrade to another iPhone will depend on how well Apple (and the competition) update their software and make the phones useful, "smart," and enjoyable to use.

and the SIM isn't tied into your account or phone number? If you don't include the SIM the buyer can just get one from AT&T right?

My experience is that you go to AT&T, sign up, get a free phone, go home, stick in you SIM card, sign up for the unlimited data plan, and it all works. You can also get another SIM card for like 5 bucks if you loose one.

why?

I get why you would want to sell your iphone. But mine will be with me forever. I have no plans of selling it. It might be the best thing in the world to have in a bathroom besides the bowl and tp.

Each additional iPhone on the family plan is $10/month for the service plus the $20/month for the data package.
