SIM card

So is this correct:
Including the sim card does not make your information any more vulnerable than just the including the iphone?
Meaning the wipe (whether it works or not) is supposed to wipe the data off the sim?

I am going to be selling my 8gb most likely, but unfortunately can't include the original packaging and manual because it is in another state right now, does anyone think that will affect the price very much on ebay?

Also better to just unlock, or unlock and jailbreak?

Thanks for the help

All of you people that sell now and make a few hundred dollars off this make me jealous

I just can't sell at the moment nor will I be able to sell until I have a new iPhone

I have too much invested in my EMail, Contacts, Calender, and other things found on my iPhone

Would the best thing to do not be to make the auction end about 90 mins after the keynote starts so you can withdraw the auction if it turns out the phone isn't available for days or there is a good upgrade scheme etc?

[edit] also what are the rules on shipping on ebay? Can you specify "it will be shipped one week from auction end" for example. To give me more chance to pick up the new one?

Good luck in your search for suckers who would pay nearly full price for an older product. I on the other hand, will lay in wait and pounce once prices bottom out. :D

I'd love to sell my iPhone, but I can't go long without a cell phone. What are people doing in the interim? Any suggestions for me?

you should always have a blackberry world phone 8830 as a back up. :D

I sold mine 2 weeks ago. Let me tell you it sucks i had it for a year and I have to say not having it is ridiculous. I find my self making extra trips home just to get my email. I get lost all the time and I cant take pictures on the 8830. (no 40.00 data plan for me)
I did sell it for my old iphone for 500.00 on craig's list unlocked though!

Not sure you know what you are talking about. OYu can not unlock unless you jailbreak.

I couldn't believe what I was reading when I found this, I thought for sure it would be too late to sell it for any kind of money.

I looked at my local craigslist (LA) saw a bunch, listed mine to move quickly. $350... realizing now I could have easily asked for more, I just didnt want hassle and haggle because my phone had a few scuffs.

Within an hour of posting I got 12 replies. I finally pulled the ad all together, but not before getting 36 replies!

yeah, this seemed almost too good to be true when I read it.

I know it's all speculation, but does anyone have any insight into what the contract upgrade schemes might be like? (with O2 in particular) I'd like to sell my iPhone before the WWDC, but I don't want to be left with no iPhone and an 18month contract, that I can't upgrade to the 3G plan without significant penalty. Will it be a similar situation to that of O2 customers who bought 1st gen iPhones, with a penalty-free contract upgrade?

SImilar Question. How do I remove my # if I were to sell it? Do a master reset?

Everyone seems to have a different idea on what Apple will do upgrade wise

You have some that think Apple won't do anything, some that think you may get $100 off, others think $200 off, and some other crazy ideas

I don't know what to think to be honest

If I get any discount at all, I will be happy. If not, so be it

I don't think the demand for these used iphones will go down dramatically when 2.0 comes out, because most of the buyers want an unlocked iphone, and it'll at least be a little while before 2.0 is cracked (maybe).

I've ended up buying and selling about 5 iphones in the past month. I do Fixed Auctions (no bidding, just buying) w/ immediate Paypal purchase. That way I don't wait around for 3-7 days, only to end up with a deadbeat winner.

I've sold new 8gb refurbs for $480, cracked (but working ) POSs for $250-300, and normal wear-and-tear used ones for around $425. I could've probably made a few bucks more, but the assurance of knowing I have a serious buyer outweighs the option of dealing with an non-paying buyer.

All I know is that I've got about $550 waiting to be spent with my paypal mastercard.

My phone says "THis accessory is not made for the iphone" about 80 times per day, so I doubt I'll ever get much for mine. Also it's a 4GB which is only good for historical collectors now.

The microphone on my 4GB stopped working, and when I took it into the apple store, the guy didn't run any tests except to check if it was still under warranty (obviously) and if I was running the latest firmware. Then he just popped my sim into an 8GB refurb and was like, ok, there you go.

My name is not Earl...

but I kind of hate thinking about how that person will feel after he/she purchased my old iPhone for almost the full price and find out the newer one cost just about the same few days later. Imagine a non-tech savvy mother saved up and got it for her son's birthday.

I'll keep my iPhone until I have all the facts on the new one and the I will decide what to do with the old one. Besides, I really don't want to deal with donky!

I just bought one last week knowing people are rushing to sell them before the new one comes out.

Got it used for 250€. It will be a present for my father. He doesn't need 3G, just an easy phone with a big screen, email and clear text :)

Waiting for the next one will mean 2.0fw will not be unlocked, more expensive, and lots of buyers wanting to buy the old one too because the iphone hype here (Europe) will have just begun

I have a couple people who are willing to pay 350$ for my 4gb iPhone. Should I give it to them before Monday? Or wait for a release date? I'm sure I can handle a week without my phone. And I dont wanna lose the sale if they wanna buy v2.0. I appreciate the help.

Some guy just offered me $680 USD on my 16gb on ebay right now, he asked me to end auction and send him my paypal address. Does that sound legit, is that how it normally works, he is in the US and have 44 positive feedback. I was blown away when he offered $680 so Im thinking its too good to be true.

I've had my iphone since the day they went on sale. Never any problems. I'm just going to keep it for the rest of my contract. At this point in time, not knowing what is to come on the next phone and since 3G means nothing to me and since I don't use it for business or anything fancy I guess hanging tight is the best bet. Good luck with the rest of you and your sales.

If he sends you the money what can be wrong? How close are you to his cap? Don't end until you verifiy the payment. At the worst, you have to start over again and deal with closing your sale and possible bad responses.

I highly reccomend that you ignore him. I had a guy offer me 650$ for my 4gb. He asked me to do the same thing. He emailed me and told me he sent the $. Pay pal then verified that the email was a fraud. The email said the $ was approved and will be deposited when the item tracking # is mail to a certain email @ mail.com. It was a fraud. Stay away! And dont click any links from his emails.

This type of thing has been posted on here several times.

I highly recommend that EVERYONE read this and understand it so they won't fall victim to it

mine has about a day left on ebay, I didn't unlock it but based on past sales I saw think it will still get around 400 which I will be happy with. its at 250 right now so i hope those last minute buyers will come in and jack up the price. might put my wifes on a 3 day listing tomorrow :)
then i just hope the 3g comes out on monday I can't go too long without my iPhone

I think I'd rather give mine to someone who might want to try out an iPhone. Hand me downs!

Side Note: I think this is my 500th post! What do I win?

I love hand me downs....and my dad is notorious for giving me hand me downs...2 major ones in the past 3 years. It's looking very likely I'll go 3 for 3.

He just bought a 16GB iPhone last week as his Cingular 3125 had it's charging port die on it (and it was out of warranty). He's determined to get a the 3G version of it when it arrives...he's not going to sell his iPhone so I get another Hand me down whenever he gets his hands on the new one. Nearly Brand New at that.

Oh and the Cingular store he got his at didn't seem to have any issues with stock for the iPhone. Don't know how many they had but they at least had one of each of the models so he was able to choose. It was the Corporate Cingular store in the shopping center just west of the intersection of Kirk Road and Route 64 in St. Charles, IL.

I love my Cingular 2125 but I definitely won't turn down an iPhone...no matter what version it is. My 2125 isn't a 3G phone so I won't be missing any speed.

I love being an only child.
