How to share items between my systems ?

I have dynamic IP.
The modem gets a new IP everytime it resets and then all the systems get that same IP.

So, I have t enter that same IP on Finder > Connect to server ?

Yeah, like smb://IPaddress

thats correct. ensure that you have correctly port forwareded though 🙂

before we go any further - can i get you to to explain exactly where you are attempting to connect from?

are you attempting to connect your PC<->Mac on the SAME network, or externally, say from work or something?

if its the first scenario, ignore the port forwarding.

if you are just on the local network, then it should work fine from what you have already been informed.

I have a windows PC , where all of my clients files and stuff are there..


Now im working on MAC and every now and then, I need that stuff, which are on my windows system.

So, I need a way, so that I can just browse a folder of my windows directly on MAC and copy the files over to MAC, whatever and whenever needed..

ok, thanks a lot for clarifying that 🙂

the basic run down is.

1. share a folder from Windows. right click->properties->sharing tab, enable it.
2. get your PCs IP address by opening Command Prompt and typing "ipconfig /all" or finding it through the Control Panel
3. go to your Mac, go to the Finder. go to the Go menu -> Connect to Server
4. type "smb//:ipaddress-of-pc" and that should be it!

192.168.1.2 (preferred) is the IP address of your PC 🙂

But it doesnt work. Not sure, what am I doing wrong. Attached screenshots for trial to error and then pressing ok.

syntax error im afraid.


"smb://192.168.1.2" is what you need to type 🙂

You guys are doing it way to complicated.

Share a folder, and go to your pc with muCommander.

Even a 3 year old can do that!
