For goodness sake, how is any normal user suppose to work that out? Most people will just think burst photos has gone. Along with deleting apps and updating apps.
There’s literally a screen showing what changed and how to use burst mode when you launch the camera app for the first time.

I believe burst is not used that often and even initiated by accident by many people. I assume there is a delay before it switches to video to avoid accidental video taking.

Why only on the new iPhones though?

Yah, on my XR, pressing and holding the shutter button continues to initiate Burst mode. Yet my phone is capable of recording video. So now we have an inconsistent user interface between two immediate generations of phones. To me, it would make more sense to have added slide-to-record-video, and keep the shutter button operating consistently across devices.

Apple is introducing software features to make people think the hardware is progressing. Cell phone hardware has sort of reached a plateau where it is more than capable for us mere humans...so now the excitement is found in silly/ contrived things like "dark mode"...which could have been implemented on literally any cell phone ever made.

If you want "planned obsolescence", look no further! Planned obsolescence came from the auto industry, when each year they claimed great new features, when the new cars were essentially the same. It is tricking people to buy new when the new product is no different from the old one.

Planned obsolescence suggests the hardware and software are *designed* to become obsolete, but that's not the case. Of course tech is going to progress forward. Obsolescence is a real thing, but "planned" obsolescence is not a motivation that Apple has. At least that's what I choose to believe. They go to great efforts to make their products last as long as possible. I've got 10.13 running on my 2013 MacBook Air without any noticeable degradation in performance. Has there been 6 years of hardware evolution since my machine was made? Absolutely! The hardware has progressed!

Now, there can be the argument made that Apple is deliberately leaving out *software* features to keep the OS running well on 6-year-old machines. Imagine if they targeted only the last generation, much like Android does? iOS would be very different, I think. Long-term support is in their DNA.

Why would different devices work differently on this particular feature? I can’t see a hardware reason for this. So why? That sounds complex not only for customers, but also for Apple in everything from software engineering to customer support and sales.

Why add the complexity? Things like this should work consistently across devices. This is very puzzling to me. 🤔

Uhh.... Apple slow-rolls implementation of obvious features, and over-hypes them as some amazing feature when they finally let customers have the feature. Apple deserves the criticism.

They pretend that software features are part of the hardware...and they use these "features" to sell new devices. It's dishonest!

I know their sales have been down, and I know that Apple is all about telling us what we need...but yeah nah.

Not sure what you’re getting at. The argument was wanting more features or not And having to learn those features, not how long it apparently takes Apple to implement.

Can you please help me to find a solution or an app where I'd be able to set iPhone to take a photo every 1 second, for example?
