Bought an iPad 3 at best buy today, but the box just says iPad.
Any way to tell without opening it up if it's a iPad 2 or an iPad 3?

Settings -> General -> Diagnostics & Usage -> Diagnostic & Usage Data
Pick one of the .plist files
Look for the line 'Hardware Model: iPad3.3'
Does your keyboard have a mic icon to the left of the space bar?
Connect to wifi and check if so its a 3
It should have an iCloud logo on one side. I don't think the last one had that.

You can tell by the wallpaper depicted in the iPad. I know on the box it's at an extreme angle, but if it looks like this...

Also you should have an iCloud sticker on the box.
