How to tell what firmware I got??

Sup ya'll..a freind of mine wants me to unlock an iphone he bought last week..but I want to kno how can I find out what firmware came on the phone? Because if it's the 1.1.2, I'll just jailbreak it for him for now. How can I tell which firmware is on it?

Well he still has it wrapped in the box, we haven't opened it yet. So it tells you when you connect it to itunes for the first time? I haven't messed with the unlocking stuff since 1.0.2 when I went on an unlocking rampage. (18 phones to be exact..lol)

I'm not positive (I don't have an iPhone), but I would suspect it says on the summary page for the iPhone (in iTunes).

For example, here's a screenshot for my iPod Nano.

...Anyone with an iPhone should be able to easily confirm or deny this. As for finding out the firmware before opening the box, I don't know.

You can also on the iPhone itself click SETTINGS > GENERAL > ABOUT and look at the "Version"

Thanks eric, but if I remember correctly since the phone isn't activated, it prompts me to the "Lets get activated" screen...I'm not able to look at the other contents.

No you can't. NOT when the phone is taken out of the box, and connected to itunes for the 1st time. All I get on the screen of the iPhone is " Not activated, and slide for emergency call" I DO remember that part...thanks anyways

What is the serial's number first 5 Digits? With that I'll tell you which firmware you may possibly have

When you get the slide for emergency screen, slide the bar and punch in *3001#12345#* then tap send. Next go to the very bottom and tap on versions and it will bring up another window with the version number there. Mine is not unlocked or activated and it shows 04.02.13_G as the firmware version which they say is 1.1.2. Anyway, good luck!
