must be some setting somewhere that enables or disables this, as when I type in a flight number (eg BA2202) into Spotlight search, I just get this...

I get the same thing. I tried flights in both the US and the EU. If you tap on the Safari Related Searches option it takes you to google and displays the flight info that google would show you.

iPhone 14 pro running 16.3. I get.

I was wondering if it is something that the carriers themselves have to initiate, but I found that the flight number has to be spot on....tried VS091 as I know that is the flight number as use it quite a bit, safari search came up but put in VS91 and it worked perfectly

This is another region locked feature. Meaning: it is tied to your Apple ID region or your iPhone region.

Thank you, Apple, for cutting out features for your international users (who also have to pay way more for the same devices).

Super cool. But it does not work for me (iPhone 12 mini, 16.3, Canada). Does not work on my Mac either.

Wow this is a great feature. Heading back home to Australia soon and I normally install other weird apps to check games and times etc, I'll give this a whirl.

Those that can’t get it to work, have a look here:
Settings
Siri & Search
Content from Apple
Show in Spotlight

if I turn that off it stops working, so might be off for you.
Thanks, that worked for me. There's also a toggle for 'Show in Look Up' - what is that?

It's working for me (iOS 16) with that exact flight but not on my Mac (Ventura).

Aha! Thanks. That solved it for MacOS.

Related, asking Siri what flights are overhead no longer works for me. Anyone else?

I used to use the dashboard widget a lot for flight tracking. I still miss dashboard for stuff like that as it was much easier to have something that was sitting there, in a known place on your screen, that you didn't have to keep typing the flight number into. It'd be great if I could take the resulting panel that comes from the spotlight search and drag it into my widgets. Still not as convenient as dashboard but at least I wouldn't lose it when I enter a new spotlight search for something else and I wouldn't have to remember the flight number.

It'd be even better if "Open in Maps" actually opened the flight in Maps, but it doesn't. It just opens the departure location in Maps, which is.... not that helpful. If it's going to open a location in Maps, the destination would surely be more useful? :). So in the example flight, U2502 is Birmingham to Edinburgh, so when I click Open in Maps on my Mac, it would be more useful if it took me to Edinburgh airport, but it takes me to Birmingham. But really it should actually show you flight in Maps and let you jump off from there to whatever you want to look at...

This worked for me too. Thank you!

The Siri & Search section in settings is the worst. So hard to figure out what each of the switches actually does 😵‍💫.

This doesn't remotely work for me, is it another US only feature? Or is it only on newer iPhones?

I tried Lufthansa and it didn't work. Put in a Spirit Airlines flight number from the US and it worked. So sadly nothing I can use here in Germany.

This has been around for a long time. Surprised to see so many who didn't know. Think it's been around since iOS 11 or even earlier. Really cool feature though so always worth reminding people
