I pre-ordered (16GB black, AT&T) through the Apple store app and still have the "preparing to ship" status. I've tried the UPS tracking using my phone number a number of times and nothing came up - until a little bit ago. Now UPS shows my iPhone to be in Nashville with delivery on Sept. 21st!

Anyone who preordered from ATT find their black 16GB? What number did you search for? AT&T Order number? Upgrade phone number?
Ordered a 16gb from Apple Store App roughly 20 minutes after pre-orders went live. I'm able to track it via UPS using my cell phone number (iPhone number, billing adress number, and number linked to Apple account... it's not my shipping number).
The package is showing up in Nashvilleassuming the rumors are true that 16gb phones are already in the states (Tennessee and Illinois).

Phone status
On Apple's website mine still says "Preparing for shipment"... However, I tracked by reference on ups.com and it says 9-21 by the end of day... Interesting, is that the phone is in Addison, IL...

I ordered a 16GB and it finally popped up. Mine is actually shipping out of Illinois which is weird because every 16GB black iPhone 5 I've seen the tracking for has shipped out of Nashville. Oh well, on track for a 9/21 delivery.
Perhaps I am one of the lucky ones that is going to have it shipped by Fed-Ex as UPS does not have any record of it tracking by the order # or by the phone #. It was ordered through Apple within the first 8 minutes (12:08 email confirmation). I am showing the status as "Preparing for Shipment", so I guess I will just wait to see what the tracking email has to say.

I have only had the one phone number since my Apple account was opened, so I am pretty sure that isn't the problem. I would rather have Fed-Ex deliver anyway as they run my area much earlier in the day. I am in Las Vegas so they may have geographic areas that either UPS or Fed-Ex uses.
I ordered my Black 16GB from Apple at about 3:05am Eastern on Friday, and it shows that it left Chek Lap Kok, Hong Kong at 9:34pm today, Hong Kong time, so it's either in the air or on a boat.
They just may not have gotten to yours yet. Someone said in another thread that they tie your tracking label to the iPhone's serial number and it's all done by hand. About 5 hours ago, I couldn't find the tracking info and I was worried but it popped up about 30 minutes ago.
Just give it a couple hours.
Yeah, this trick seems to only work with orders made through apple.com and the Apple Store app.
Not necessarily as i ordered through the app and this method doesn't work for me either.

Same here in NYC. Black AT&T 16GB. The serial number does come up on my Apple support profile though.
