Of course, but then I only have one alarm in the mornings anyway ;P
So do I.

But I often change the time of my alarm based on when I am going to be at work. And I am always up before my wife.

Getting out of the shower (after getting up before my alarm goes off as I often do) to find an angry wife because my alarm woke her up and she couldn't turn it off (when the phone was on mute) is not my idea of starting the day right.

And yeah, I could turn the alarm off before getting up. Pick up phone, unlock, open Clock app, disable alarm. Hope I remember to turn it back on later in the day or I will oversleep the following day.

Versus…

Flip the mute switch.

But how would you know you are on mute--you would see the speaker icon showing you are on mute. If you don't check the speaker icon you wouldn't know and could very well not be on mute. That's along the lines of what you described before where you didn't check/notice the speaker icon being enabled and thus sound coming out of it.

Well what I mean is that there is one very easy spot to check if your computer is muted…. so on a Macbook Air its just the sound icon(pictured below). If that’s checked all audio and sounds are disabled(that I know of). It's extremely easy to check.

In the iPhone 6 case I’m finding there is multiple controls for audio and sounds. What I was talking about was just a specific voicemail speaker control. But there’s a separate volume for audio/video, then another one for your ringer, then alarms are another story…etc.

Damn so I might need to go with a jail broken option.

I find there is just too many ways to get caught in embarrassing situations without having to check multiple different steps. For example if im browsing twitter and click a link and some video pops up then it's going to be blasting in public unless i remember to turn off that specific sound.

I would kill for an actual mute option. If im at a funeral it would be nice to have 100% guarantee my phone is silent without turning it off or making some checklist of disabling sounds.
[doublepost=1500228181][/doublepost]Here is a simple hack that really works, buy a really cheap headset and cut off the piece that plugs into the earphone jack... when you need to make sure that no sound will come out of your phone, just plug it in.

Be careful writing this. If Apple gets wind of this idea they will be charging $30 for mute dongles.

Yet again…except for alarms!

Whether you have headphones (or a stub) plugged in or not, alarms will go off through both the speaker AND the headphone jack.

I'm still banking Cook will debut this ground breaking feature in the iPhone 8. "iPhone Mute"

It is really maddening to me that there is not ONE switch which cuts off ALL sound coming from the iPhone. I appreciate your noting that even the headphone (or stub) will not mute alarms... my problem has been that say I'm in meeting... I can have everything off, (on mute, and volume all the way down), however, should I land on a particular webpage that automatically plays a video, the sound blares out full volume... it is so annoying... for this particular issue, the headphone stub works great.

ha this just happened to me again. Was on my sports news app and as I was scrolling through the page i accidentally click on the embedded video.....blaring sound in the office. I'm still holding my breath that iPhone 8 will be call 'iPhone Mute' and feature a groundbreaking feature that took Apple 10 years to implement. A mute button.
