last night i purchased from swiftunlocks for $2 then around 4:21am i got an email from them stating that my iphone was unlocked. i restored it to itunes and my t-mobile sim worked. i even update it to iOS 7 GM :)

i have 64GB

Call AT&T. If your contract is paid in full and your account (or former account) in good standing, they will unlock it for you.
all contracts are now 24 months and iphone 5 was released 12 months ago. I don't think anyone's contract is up but I could be wrong.

for swiftunlocks, do you also need to plug into itunes and restore?

I want to maintain my jailbreak but also unlock the phone. If i go the AT&T route, i have to pick between the jailbreak (no restore) or the unlock (via restore). just wondering if a restore is always required.

thanks

I just unlocked my iphone 5 running ios 7. I didn't restore. I put in a rogers sim, the phone restarted, asked for my icloud password and then activated.

Does anyone know if doing this affects your current contract? I'm going to sell my iPhone 4S once I get the 5s but I wanna sell it unlocked. I'm eligible to upgrade (AT&T) right now, even though my contract does not officially end until next month. So will unlocking it through a 3rd part affect anything?

Yes, you can use an unlocked (by any of the many service providers) AT&T iPhone on AT&T.

I had previously researched suspending or having AT&T unlock an iPhone for extended foreign travel (5-6 months), and it's my impression they they will not do either. I have not yet actually asked AT&T yet though :D.

If they still suspend, you might lose old plan prices, like for example unlimited data.

Yes, but you can close the contract with AT&T, similar to paying the ETF to cancel your account. This will end your contract, preserve your current level of service, and get your phone unlocked.

While some of the unlock-for-fee services work, sometimes they do not. In those situations, you often have to get the carrier to do it.

Looking for a little help here...

I just ordered the 5S - and I want to sell my 5 on eBay. I want to factory unlock it so that I can get more money.
Is it as simple as just going to the AT&T website and requesting an unlock on that phone? Will that cause any issues with my new 5S? Finally, should I remove the SIM card before/after unlocking?

Thanks

After reading this thread last week I decided to request to get my iPhone 5 unlocked by AT&T. I bought this current iPhone 5 from AT&T upon launch last year so clearly I have not fulfilled the 2 year commitment yet.

I requested it through AT&T's unlock request form online. Once I submitted I got a confirmation email saying AT&T received the request. Then seconds later I got another email saying it can be unlocked but I have to wait for 24 hours. So I waited and the next evening I did the iTune thing and it is unlocked.

I the purchased a "contract-free" T-Mobile iPhone 5s this morning on the Apple web site with no issue. I will have to see if it is truly unlocked and works with my AT&T sim card.

When you plugged it into iTunes to do the unlock, did you have the SIM card in the phone? But when you go to sell the phone, you'll sell it without the SIM card in there right?

Yes I had the AT&T sim card in the phone when I unlocked it. I will be taking it out when I sell it on eBay. That sim car is going into the new iPhone I am getting in a week or two.

I did get the on-screen message saying it is unlocked.

OK, I just tried the ATT unlock on their website. I've tried it a couple different times for my iphone 5. It worked! It tells me to wait 24 hours and then restore with itunes. I don't have a different SIM card to put into the phone. I just wanted to do this before selling it on eBay. Will it still unlock with the standard ATT SIM card?

Yes, with any sim. You can use AT&T's.
Once the unlock goes through you are good.
The buyer can even activate it with any GSM sim in the world.

That's great news. I wonder why they allowed mine to be unlocked but not my wife's IMEI. We got them at the same time. I tried mine a few different times and it finally worked for mine. I suppose I'll just have to keep trying it with hers until it works also.

Swiftunlocks.com.

$2.

I've used them for several iPhones.

I used that link and gave it try, paid 2 dollar 1-12 hours and behold my iphone 5 is unlocked AT&T by restoring iphone ios 7. I have searched many unlocked website that are charging too much.

Many Thanks

I have tried thru AT&T like I did with my phone but they won't unlock my wife's. To tell you the truth I'm not sure why they unlocked mine but they did. Now they won't do the same for my wife's. I also was thinking about trying swift unlocks. We're they able to unlock anyone's phone when AT&T would not do it?
