I have tried thru AT&T like I did with my phone but they won't unlock my wife's. To tell you the truth I'm not sure why they unlocked mine but they did. Now they won't do the same for my wife's. I also was thinking about trying swift unlocks. We're they able to unlock anyone's phone when AT&T would not do it?

I just unlocked my 5 with swiftunlock. I'm using my new 5s and when I tired to unlock the 5 on AT&T's site, I got a message that they won't do it for 14 days after an upgrade to the 5s. I called in and was told that there is a 14 day return policy and they won't do it until that time is up. She said that in the past, people have bought a new phone, unlocked the old phone and then returned to new phone. Then they were off contract and had an unlocked phone.

This 5 is sold and I don't want to wait the 14 days, so I did swiftunlock. Got the unlock email in about 4 hours. When I used a imei checker on the web, it does say it's unlocked. The 5 is restoring now, so I'll know for sure in a few minutes.

Hopefully in a few hours I'll have cash in hand that covers the cost of the 5s (tax included) and AppleCare+ with some left over. Now if I can just get AT&T to waive my upgrade charge I can add $36 more to the profit.

BREAKING NEWS - the restore just finished and iTunes says - "Congratulations, your iPhone has been unlocked!"

Sweet!

Great news. I used swiftunlock also. I got the email. Unfortunately my media drive crashed and it's doing a repair disk now. 12 hours until I can use it again. That's the iTunes drive. Hope it repairs or I'll be doing a restore. Once that's all done I'll get to verify my iPhone unlocks also.

You don't need to restore it on iTunes to Unlock it, just put in the new sim u want to use.

We'll I used swift unlock mad it worked. Even when AT&T wouldn't do it. $1.99. Can't beat that.

Swiftunlocks.com. Got my newly purchased iPhone 5 unlocked from AT&T in several hours. It's also factory unlock.

I have an AT&T 5S, but I don't have another SIM to swap in after doing swiftunlocks, do I need to go find someone with a T-Mobile SIM for example?

Actually, I know VZW isn't GSM, but the new LTE phones have nano SIMs, so would my work iPhone 5 work? It's just to let the new 5S test that it can accept non AT&T SIMs right?

I did the swift unlocks on my wife's iPhone 5 and I only had my AT&T sim. It didn't matter. I wiped the phone and hooked it to iTunes and it said it was unlocked.

Hey I checked out all the sites on this thread and there isn't one for Tmobile USA, Does anyone have a lead? Much Appreciated!

I used swiftunlocks.com for my newly purchased AT&T used iPhone 5. I have tmobile. Signed up for their 1-3 hours unlock Friday evening, Saturday morning when I woke up my phone was factory unlocked and works on tmobile just fine.

I just purchased the swiftunlocks code based upon the recommendations here, and am waiting for the code. The phone does not have to be jailbroken to be unlocked, correct?

Also what is the process like after they give you the code? I see someone mentioned restoring with iTunes, but have not seen ant other details other than that. Any help would be appreciated!

Looking for a little help here...

I just ordered the 5S - and I want to sell my 5 on eBay. I want to factory unlock it so that I can get more money.
Is it as simple as just going to the AT&T website and requesting an unlock on that phone? Will that cause any issues with my new 5S? Finally, should I remove the SIM card before/after unlocking?

Thanks

If you use an upgrade to replace your 5 with a 5s AT&T will make you wait 14 days to factory unlock it. With SwitftUnlocks no need to remove the SIM card or restore.

I unlocked my iPhone 5 after upgrading / receiving my 5s. I did not want to wait for the AT&T because-we-can 14 day timer to expire.

I just unlocked my att iphone 5s with www.iunlock247.com for only $5.99 . The best ever for me. They also provide free imei iphone checker. Hope it help you guys.

Yes, I got the "Congratulations, your phone has been unlocked" screen..

First, I put a non AT&T sim in to see if it worked and it did, then I put the AT&T sim back in & when I connected the phone to iTunes I got the screen.

Need another site similar to swiftunlocks.com because they stopped taking requests due to high volume. Anyone know another site?

Just a heads-up: Those who upgraded via AT&T on release day (9/20) can unlock their previous phones now via the official AT&T request form (14-day wait period is over). I received a confirmation email just seconds after submitting the form and successfully unlocked the phone 10 minutes later. :)

Thanks for the info before I make the payment to those unlock site.

I paid 549 for this 5S with 2years contract, does it mean I can request for unlock after 14days? I am asking for the 5S, not 5 or the old iPhone.

Thanks again.

EDIT: NVM I found the key word "previous", please disregard.

I still prefer the eBay unlock method... Websites pop up and disappear overnight... At least on eBay you can read their feedback... A current unlock will cost you $25+ for an AT&T phone...

However, with the iPhone 5, your phone does not have to be unlocked to use Straight Talk (at least not if you do the T-Mobile SIM swap hack)...
