Damn, this works well! It’s seamless. The first few times it unlocked with my mask on, it kind of felt surprising and unexpected that the phone actually unlocked because we’ve grown so used to having to put in our password. But now, I’ve totally forgotten about it and it just works. That Face ID passive security that you can forget about, is back!

I regularly have 70% left on my series 4. Do you not sleep at night? That’s when you charge lol.
Me too. It's very rare that I'm unable to charge every night but like you its around 70% when I take it off. Battery life has been a non issue on my Series 2, 3, and 4. The original was OK too, just.

Apple Pay is a big pain point too. I wish that worked with the Watch. Or could somehow be secure without having to enter a passcode with people behind you in line.

Well, I suppose if you are using an Apple Watch to unlock your phone, you can also use Apple Pay from the watch.

Surely you are trolling now? Once you've put your watch on and unlocked it as soon as you put it on, it's unlocked for the rest of the day. You double tap the side button to use Apple Pay with no pin requirement. It's my primary payment method.

I’m finding this really super useful, my only thing is I wish it was faceID more generally, like on apps or payment. Payment is the main thing for me, bit pointless me having to put in the code anyways… and I’m not putting my hands near people so having the watch on doesn’t solve the problem lol

There is a “Set Up Alternate Appearance” in FaceID Settings that allows you to scan yourself with a mask on. It works. Don’t need beta. Don’t need a watch.
I tried setting that up and on my iPHone it says that there is something obscuring your face and won't complete the process.

Not if you don't wear an Apple watch, the smart watch with the worst battery life by a wide margin. We need touch id. Or how about face id of your upper face
Then you can’t use the feature. Buy a watch? I get 2 days of battery with my SE

that wouldn’t be as secure. This only unlocks your phone.

What does putting hands near people have anything to do with this? You are either putting the phone in your hand next to a payment terminal or a watch on your wrist (next to your hand) next to a payment terminal.

I can't charge at night, I charge before I go to bed for about an hour and a half (til its full). I use my watch for sleep tracking so it has to be on my wrist at night. And when I get the series 6, I'll be using the SpO2 sensor while I sleep so another reason to use it all night. I'm regularly down to 30% or lower on my series 5 by dinner time.

Downloaded yesterday and it works great. Honestly, it’s a perfect workaround for all FaceID iPhones. It worked every time for me yesterday in the grocery store. I wonder if this new feature will prevent the adoption of TouchID added to next iPhones.

I wear mine 24/7 except when I’m getting dressed and taking a shower. The one hour I spend doing that is enough to keep it charged.

I have upgraded to the public beta on both my iPhone and my Apple Watch. now when I tried switching this feature on I get this error message saying: Cant communicate with your Apple Watch, try again. Ive restarted my devices multiple times and tried some other workarounds but still nothing so far. does anyone have an idea what's wrong ?

You need another watch. I use my OG (“S0”) for sleep tracking.

I have not been able to get the feature working.

iPhone 12 Pro Max and Apple Watch Series 4.

The connection spins for a while and eventually the I'm offered to cancel or try again.

My system checks all the boxes. Anyone else experiencing this behavior?

Same problem! Also tried restarting both devices. No luck.

I wear mine while sleeping and in the shower, the two most typical times people charge their AW, and I still have no issues with battery life. I charge mine at some point during a time I’m going to be sitting for an hour or so, and that’s plenty.

What are you talking about? You don’t have to put in a code when you use Apple Pay with your AW.
