Me and my kid are sharing itunes account. So, any silly app or in-app purchases are going through me. If I send him $10 to his Apple Cash Card - will he be able to use it without my help? This $10 will be linked to his device, so it should be doable, right? o_O

Using the Apple Cash card, I assume the transfer is immediate from person to person? (Example would be Craigslist sale). How long does it take to transfer from a debit card to someone? With the cash card, is Apple providing coverage for fraud? What’s the individuals liability for the cash card? How are transactions tracked? Is there a statement available with transaction history? How far back does it go? What’s the dispute process with the cash card?

These are all just off the top of my head that I don’t think the article addressed (if it did, my apologies).

Is this really like “cash” or can transactions be disputed?

It’s a huge problem accepting PayPal for a transaction and then having the paying party reverse the transaction after they get the goods.

You may have problems because it's not a Visa or a MasterCard. The card is a Discover Debit Card which is issued by Green Dot Bank.

See Here for international acceptance, the page shows what logos to look for while you're overseas at the bottom of the page they change for each region you select at the top. They also have to support contactless Discover.

If only they used MasterCard or Visa. Then you should be able to roll it out easily internationally without any issues. Maybe was difficult for them to strike a deal.

There's going to be millions, maybe billions of $1 transactions executed when this is rolled out. Wow!

I wonder how long it would take to deposit the money in the bank.... one business day maybe?

I was wondering the same thing myself... and guessing probably 1 business day as well... most of the time if two people use the same bank, though, then the money will transfer in less than an hour if it's during normal business hours.

I asked this question in the last apple pay article thread but it wasn’t answered: Is your apple pay cash balance on your iphone usable on your other Apple devices (other iphone, ipad, mac) for apple pay transactions? I would think so but it’s not clear from what I’ve read.

Hi Mom, need some money for ramen.

Mom: Im sending over your resume, get a job.

Whenever I see that screenshot I always think the mother’s reply should be “You’re not getting anything because you didn’t say please”!

I know it’s mind of irrelevant Lol, but I was expecting Apple Pay Cash to look a little more elegant. Feel like they should go with a different font on those black cards that show the amount you’re sending.

For clarification the 3% fee is for credit cards, where you are using money that isnt your until you get that nasty bill at the end of the month from AMEX

Debit card would be your normal day to day card, linked to your current account, most likely where your wages are paid into each money, using this card for ApplePay would not incur a fee.

If in doubt check your card and see what it is (Normally has a logo in the corner), Visa Debit, Visa Credit, Mastercard, AMEX etc.

On a different matter, when money is received via ApplePay and its inserted to your virtual wallet that you can use to pay for normal contact-less stuff via ApplePay such as a coffee in Starbucks, what happens if your have insufficient funds?

Will it do the same as PayPal and take what you have from your virtual wallet and then seek the remainder from your nominated account?

It's not looking perfect, that's for sure - I think disputes are to be handled in a similar was as for typical credit card chargebacks.

Read more here about the terms and conditions:

Not sure we’ll see ever this in UK / Europe. The recent EU ruling limits interchange fee on credit cards to 0.3%. And retailers are going to be prevented from charging fees to accept credit cards. Apple Pay doesn’t fall perfectly into either category, but I reckon the regulators won’t be happy with a 3% fee.

If only they used MasterCard or Visa.

I don't know why they picked a third party in the US using Discover as sounds like that's not excepted everywhere in country either let alone getting started on international acceptance.

Then you should be able to roll it out easily internationally without any issues. Maybe was difficult for them to strike a deal.

They haven't done a direct deal with anyone they're using a third party to issue the card and the third party and Apple have chosen a Discover Card.

And it will not be as simple as doing a deal with MasterCard or Visa, to make it easier to roll out internationally. As someone needs to handle all the financial services systems and make sure it complies with regulations in each country.

However when they partner with a third party in another country it most likely will be using a virtual Visa or MasterCard or maybe a card scheme that is only available in that country for example in Australia it could be a virtual eftpos Card.

Just have to wait and see how they roll things out internationally. If they ever do.

Kinda annoying you have to remember to withdraw the money from the Cash card to your bank account. Would be far more handy to be able to auto pull received funds, like a bank transfer. This is how paym works.

I think maybe the person asking for $20 from his mom should buy some of the cheap $25 cent ramen instead of the expansive $20 ramen and they wouldn’t have to ask for money so often. ;)

I was combing the comments specifically for a comment about that picture

Will this work with a Debit Card from a bank that is not part of the Apple Pay program?
I'm guessing not, unfortunately. I really want to use this service but my credit union debit card does not support Apple Pay. I realize I could tie it to a credit card but I'd like to avoid the 3% charge if at all possible.

I've been using this on the 11.2 Public Betas. However, now that 11.2 public is out, I went to add it on my family's phones, and it does not show up as an option to add.

Has this not been activated for the public yet?

Edit: Didn't see the story with the update about it. Nevermind. I'd delete my own post, but I don't think I can.
