Lol You forgot to hide the second al
Did that make sense to you when you wrote it? If not, why'd you post it? If so, seek help/get your meds checked.
As for paying extra to use it for a hotspot. Avail yourself of the free market and choose another carrier.

Works GREAT!
It works as reliably as al the Handoff features, which is, not at all - probably 30% of the time.
I've seen it appear. It doesn't appear right now though.
I'll usually get Handoff working between iPhone and Macbook and not the other way around. Then i'll reboot the Macbook and it'll work from Macbook to iPhone and not the other round.
It's one of the buggiest features Apple has have made...a theme of the times lately unfortunately.

I think a necessary step is missing from this guide.

Are you using the Knock app for unlocking your Mac from your iPhone? I was, but it seems like it doesn't play well with Yosemite's Instant Hotspot feature. I told Knock to unlink my iPhone and quit the (Mac) app and then my iPhone started showing up as an available Personal Hotspot in the WiFi menu.
I'm confused a bit. Couldn't we already do this? How is this 'Instant Hotspot' different from the Earlier 'Hotspot'?
A lot of carriers being who? None of whom provide any coverage where I live.
